Care to expand on this? Does 1963 command higher prices in relation to the years immediately before and after?
It’s the era not year specific. SM300’s, Speedy’s and Connie’s from this period tend to be among the most valuable. Not your fault you were born during the hot-hot-hot period of sport watchmaking.
Birthyears of ‘69-‘72 (me) get some groovy options (hello Speedy MkII) that aren’t as eye watering for prices, but we lose the Classic Connie’s (although I do love my C-case).
All that said, there are some awesome Seamasters and Geneve’s around ‘63 in the Omega lineup that won’t cost you a mortgage payment.
If you widen the field from Omega (and steer waaaaay clear of Rolex divers/chronos), there are some awesome values out there from ‘63 from brands like Zodiac, Bulova, JLC, UG, Hamilton, Longines, Tissot, etc.
Getting the year nailed is hard for many (Bulova did use a date code on their watches which makes it very easy) but there are some visual cues when you get to know the watches that can help narrow the range.
Collecting birth year watches can be a very fun treasure hunt…depending on year you were born. ‘77-late 80’s….not much out there for those guys unless you like gold plated quartz poop.
I should also say, if money isn’t an object, then you are in the prime year for some of the coolest watches on the planet.
