I have answered an awful lot of queries recently about an awful lot of awful 2998's. One of the main things I keep saying is look at the watch. Does it look nice, does it talk to you? For the most part these watches have really shagged dials, poor hands and terrible bezels. No matter what is done to them, they are shagged. One has to throw a lot of money at a shagged watch, and at the end of the day it will still be shagged out. We can lose sight of what a nice watch can look like. So here. A 2998-61 acquired in 2015 from the first owner. Its all about the dial, then the case then the bezel then the hands. (For me). The movement, as long as its the correct number we can fix This is not exceptional, but it is very attractive. My advice to those seeking a 2998, is be patient, dont loose heart and above all, buy a watch you think looks nice. I does not have to be top, but find something that is happy. Not shagged.
Lot's of 'iffy' stuff about with vendors trying to cash in on rarity/popularity, but that's a 'proper' watch !
I think that both 2998s shown above have their proper place within the vintage Omega community. Back in the day, these were tool watches and very few have survived in the condition of the OPs watch. Obviously, William's is worth a premium compared with the other 62 but both are worthy of owning with pride.
In Spain that is a saying that is something like: There is always a nicer chicken then the one that you have... Lol I was just joking with my posts... you guys make the end of my working day better! Cheers
I has some luck with this image as the over exposed "star" is right on the spot where there is a scratch on the bezel,
Found this 10 years ago,the old owner changed the bezel before he put it for sale and raised the price because of new bezel. Have some smal problems that i should get fixed, but the lume is pleasent, sorry for bad photo
These two still take my breath away. Slightly cheating as the black one is a 105.002 but the brown is a 29998/2.
Many lovely examples here. My 2998-4 is basically correct but the hand lume either just never developed the nice patina of the markers, or maybe was redone at some time. Also, the hour markers just maybe were mucked with, I simply can't tell.
