Hi guys,

I am brand new to the world of Omega. I am looking to get my hands on a vintage omega without spending too much money. I really like the Seamaster, and this one on the sales thread caught my eye. I was wondering if this was a good deal for this watch?

Thanks for any help.

If you want it, only you can decide if you like the price. I do not know what a 'good deal' means to you. If it was a steal, it would have already been stolen. It appears to be a solid watch offered by a long-time OF member, so much more confidence then gambling on eBay, etc.

Yes, it’s a good deal and Tamura is a very established member. You can purchase from him with confidence. If you purchase it, you should have it serviced and expect it to cost about $300.

Well done, to look at the private sales section. At first I thought it was just a trickle of things these hoarders were letting go once in a blue moon, but I've come to realize that place is a gold mine. I saw this particular watch and was tempted. Great pickup.

Isn't it a little too much 300 for servicing a manual movement?

It depends where you are located and also whether if there are any issues that require parts.

And, ultimately, on the level of service—there are watchmakers who can do partial-cleans for less, but a full tear-down, here in Indiana, by the best watchmaker I know, starts at $350, and when he's done with the watch, it's good for the next 5-8 years.

Consider the expertise and equipment needed to service a watch. It sounds like a very fair price to me.
