Hello ,

i'm about to pull the trigger on this good looking Speedmaster. It's coming from a private seller as the 4th owner
i've call the store where it has been bought last year (it was indicated in the classified)
The store is "Brussel Vintage Watch" they told me that
- yes they know the man and he was clean
- the watch was 100% original
- came with no archive extract

As i'm not very experienced in vintage Speedmaster i wanted to know your thoughts
The price is close under 5k euros.
Thanks in advance

Jerome (Paris-France)

Definitely a -71 with a stepped dial. Personally prefer the -71 vs. the -74 anyway.

With no bracelet, $5k does seem a bit much for it. It does seem to be in honest condition. But unless you are specifically itching for a 71 and getting one right now, I'm not sure it's a great value for money.

The 1171 bracelet can be sold with the watch for 300 euros ...

There are some '71 that came with the flat link 1039 too. My cousin has one he bought new that came with that bracelet. Interestingly it's not a no-nasa or a straight writing either. I mean it's possible that they switched it out when he bought it, but it definitely came with that bracelet when he bought it new back in '71 or '72.

Most likely a 1171 with 633 ends.

Eh? No, it has a 1039 on it. I mean like I said, it may have been switched out by the dealer when he bought it, but it came with the 1039. Not certain of the endlink numbers though. He sent me pics of the watch after we discussed it which is how I know, and I was surprised at the time that it had a 1039 on it. I asked him about it but it was what he got with the watch. I went looking for the pics but I've switched phones since then and they aren't in my text messages anymore.

With a 1039 it's a real bargain for $5k. 😀

A great honest watch.. in very nice order...and would be lucky to have 1039/516 in the deal but then a very good deal

It would be an idea to actually read this thread. There is no 1039 involved ::facepalm1::

I would go 4.8k and ask for the bracelet and the strap.

True @Badwolf I just thought IF dealer has omega spare bracelets/parts laying around (as many do), OP could try to go for the correct bracelet for the watch as part of the deal (even if it’s at a slight premium)

Unfortunately those parts are getting scarce, a reasonable 1039/516 is over 1k. The trend now is to offer the more plentiful 1171 and sell the 1039 separately. The old bracelets are getting difficult to source. eBay is full of tired examples at high prices.

1171 would still be a decent deal and a more complete watch close to $5K if possible

The seller didn't want to lower his price so I declined the offer ... thanks to you all for your help.
Have a good day
