TBH, I used to find Hodinkee annoying, but now I find it to be totally irrelevant.

I never got into Hodinkee, it always seemed to be run by smarmy guys, with Clymer at the top. They thought they had more influence than they actually did. Not surprised that the C&C purchase isn't working out, reporting and pushing new product releases is in conflict with analyzing and selling used product. The audiences are different, Hodinkee thought they were essentially the same.

I used to really enjoy the Dink and their articles on vintage, even their sales . I’ve also had pleasant experience with C&C. The good writers have departed and mostly what is left is shilling for the new watch industry. Sad for both.

They bought a ton of luxury watches at the top of the market. What could go wrong?

Let’s not forget this tone-deaf moment in the middle of a global pandemic

Lol that was a fantastic source of entertainment when good laughs were in short supply. Thanks for the memory.

Looks like I'm going to have to get my hat order in sooner than I'd planned, just in case...

I have never been able to take them seriously just because of their name.

Yeah- keep laughing chuckles.
I'm sure he's keeping himself well-paid while the company circles the drain...

I never have set my watch by Hodinkee so this is of no effect.

I knew that C&C was going downhill fast when they stopped making cash offers for used watches. Instead, all they offered was credit toward the purchase of another watch or accessories from C&C or Hodinkee. That screamed cash flow issues to me. It’s a shame too because I purchased a watch from, and sold several others to, C&C before they were acquired by Hodinkee. They were pleasant and fair to deal with at that time.

The article misses the whole LVHM acquisition....not the best representation of the picture.

I had no idea LVMH was involved until you mentioned it, so thank you. But it looks like there are numerous individual and institutional investors/owners (including John Mayer and Tom Brady) so LVMH's stake may or may not be all that significant. At the end of 2020 it appears that the whole Hodinkee enterprise was valued at about $100 million. And today....? Probably a big Ouch.
