I bought a Railmaster from Somlo in March. Although their prices are on the high side their selection is great. I found them easy to work with and they were surprisingly quite negotiable which helped bring their pricing more in line with the market.

What you only paid 50% over market value? Rents on Bond St (which the arcade is next to) are eye watering. They have to take the piss on price to survive and they certainly do.

Appreciate the sarcasm but I paid towards the bottom of the range of what's available.

i can understand why some people are willing to pay several thousand more for a safe transaction from a place where you can walk out with the watch rather than hoping it will arrive in the mail. Everyone has their own level of risk and comfort with paying “extra”.

Must be enough people willing to buy from Somlo, because they’ve been there for almost 20 years.

Quite negotiable? Would you accept to share what sort of discount you managed to get please?

I walked in their store yesterday, they had a few Connies but they were asking £3000 for them, which is way too expensive. Maybe they do offer big discounts if you ask politely? Bringing the value closer to the market prices, but still with a premium for their warranty and the rent they pay?

I saw these Connies. I agree, they were vastly overpriced. Shame really. I reckon for more expensive/rarer pieces they are a good bet though, from an authenticity point of view…

Reading this thread back, I now see the sense in @Donn Chambers's comment above. I would personally never buy from Somlo but I get why some would. The cost is absolute but value is more variable and subject to opinion and if the transaction works for you, then why not. I work with jewellery and spend my days trying to work out the price of things, but sometimes you have to switch that lobe off and just enjoy the watch, since there are other factors at work including peace of mind for the buyer. The old maxim about the price being the first thing to be forgotten when you buy well is often true so @Caracal25 perhaps I did you a disservice earlier!

I visited these guys in 2019 and asked about a modest looking Seamaster in an SS case. When they told me it was ~£3000 I laughed and walked away thinking they were just making up a number to get me out of there, since maybe I didn't look like a serious enough buyer!
Even compared to vintage watch boutiques in my home city, the prices on their website are a little insane. 😵‍💫
