Hi All,

Have a vintage Bulova astronaut with a 214 movement that I need to get serviced. The crown is not engaging the hands and the watch is not running currently. I know these are pretty specific and not all watchmakers work on these but does anyone have a recommendations on watchmakers who specialize in these?

Thanks in advance

Might be an idea to post where you are.

I’m in NY, but have no issue shipping the watch if there’s a recommended watchmaker who specializes in vintage Accutron/bulova

I use the Croydon Service Centre in the UK. If you send them the watch they give a quote for what needs doing.

http://www.watchrepairs.co.uk/

I’ve been happy with their work but the cost was around £300 each time.

Rob is the best, but I've put off sending my 214s out for their regular service due to concern over international shipping.

Friends on the west coast, any knowledge/reviews on John Johnson at Accutron only service and sales in Portland Oregon?

I sent a watch to Rob yesterday, so we'll see. He provides explicit instructions for shipping to him and details the process of returning the watch. FWIW, First Class International to Thailand cost me $22.25 USD. According to Rob, the return shipping will be about $26.00 plus about $8.00 for tariffs.

I am sure we will all be eagerly waiting to hear how smoothly it goes.

I sent Rob a 218 in mid-August 2026. Long story short, I received it back on 29 December 2025. I am located in the east coast of the USA.

Marvelous work, it is running perfectly. It required no new parts, just cleaning, lube and adjustment. The price all in was $200, the price included return shipping, $8 tariff and a new battery.

This is the 4th tuning fork that I have sent him and would not hesitate to send him another if and when. Highly recommended if you can stand the backlog.

I may have to do this. If this is THE guy, I don’t mind the backlog.

Rob doesn’t have an 8 week backlog because he is incapable.

His backlog speaks of his ability and reputation.

He is the guy. I've used a couple before I found him, and he is the only guy I'll send my Accutrons to now. He is well worth the wait.

Thanks all! I just shot him an email to get this process started. Appreciate the input

Father Time Antiques in Chicago sells Accutrons and Hamilton Electrics. Their watchmaker is good but pricey. You might reach out to them re Maintenance.

You can try Jarett Harkness at Unwind in Time. I haven't solicited their services but heard good things.
Yeah, I agree. He did 2 watches for me before I found out about Rob B, both excellent repairs but a bit pricier than Rob. At the time a few weeks faster than Rob.

Interesting fact: When Rob sends watches back to the US after repair he sends a group of watches in a single shipment to his US agent. His agent then breaks down the shipment and sends the individual watches to their final destination.

Guess who his agent is. Jarett Harkness.
