hey guys, I came across this one for sale - ref 2792-3 - and I was wondering if it was a franken? 1. The OVD states that this reference should have a cal 283, but the movt is a cal 285. Did they put in some cal 285s into these ref 2792s? I tried to search the web but all I found were cal 283s. 2. Is the dial correct for a 2792? I've tried searching but the only similar dial I found was here, with similar hands, with a 30T2 movt instead. So I'm wondering if it's a franken (though the seller has had some good feedback here before on OF), or just an uncommon dial/movt combo for this reference. Any info would help, thanks in advance!
2 thoughts come to mind. The first is that the style of dial is much earlier than this reference. I also think this is a redial. Look at the distances between the font and the edge of the black track - they are quite uneven. The second point are the hands. I don't think they are correct for this style of dial. My 2c
Just a curious input to test my knowledge too... the link you posted to the Instagram picture seems to match your picture in terms of the number positioning and the hands - suggests the dial is legit? (please correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t know enough about this style of watch, purely based on observations). The obvious difference is the sub second hand, and that could explain the different movement? or maybe, like Joe said, it doesn’t match given the style of the dial is too old. Apologies if that wasn’t very helpful!
The dial isn't for a much older reference - note that the logo is the 1954-forward type. The only issue, cosmetically (never bothered needing around too much about the various 30mm-movement variants), is that the seconds hand has broken off at the tip. It should extend to the seconds/minutes track.
This is my 2792-5 with cal 283. Bought it as a parts watch, but will be happy to find a replacement dial for it as the movement runs perfectly well. I find that full arabic dials are always less common. Your hands and dial look fine to me.
A ref. 2792 should not have a cal. 285, it should be a cal. 283 instead, so it is a franken watch. https://www.omegawatches.com/watch-omega-other-omega-ot-2792/
Funny thing. I contacted the same seller for a different Oversize... I found strange that the “triangle” on the inner side of the case back is scratched out. The seller told me that is has been done for some “import policy”
a very beautiful example was sold some years ago on the forum... https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-50’s-bicolor-sweden-cal-283-manual-ref-2792-5-sc.9383/
