·Hi everyone,
I'm the owner of a rare Omega Art Collection quartz watch from 1987, limited edition (serial B.586/999). It's the maxi size (~40mm case) with black ceramic bezel/dial, date at 6, and the geometric abstract art medaljon on the case back (multi-colored bars and squares, likely Richard Paul Lohse or Paul Talman design).
The sapphire glass on the case back is cracked (from impact or age), but the art medaljon underneath is completely undamaged. The watch runs fine (quartz movement), but I'd like to replace the sapphire glass to protect the medaljon and restore the watch properly.
Questions:
Has anyone successfully replaced the rear sapphire crystal on an Art Collection model? Omega no longer produces parts for this series.
Recommendations for a watchmaker experienced with these (preferably in Europe, but open to shipping)?
Approximate dimensions: visible medaljon/glass area ~32-34mm diameter, flat sapphire, secured by 4 larger screws (out of 8 total on the case back).
Any photos of a disassembled Art Collection case back or teardown would be amazing!
I've attached photos of the front, case back (showing the crack), and close-ups.
Thanks in advance for any advice - this is a cool collector's piece and I'd love to get it fixed properly!
