I think your chance of getting the gold version from an OB is pretty slim unless they have a cancellation and you are in the right place at the right time. Personally, the price for the all gold version was very well priced for an all gold watch, I don't think many people will flake out if they have been promised one. You'll have to wait for them to appear on the secondary market and we'll have the same discussion again about those damn flippers.
Well, according to my OB, there is an official Omega waiting list in case people would "flake out" (on which I am), but reading how the London OB handled that sale left me wondering.
I will reach out to Omega again to inquire and will report back if I hear anything new.

I have also many thoughts on flippers and people who profit from doing this, but I think I will take these thoughts in a new thread and we can have at it there.

Going back to the business at hand: Apollo 11 50th anniversary...

Wasn't anybody surprised to hear that a member here was offered to still buy the gold model if he would purchase both the SS and the Au models?? 👎

Does that mean that there is still a chance to get the gold model somewhere at an OB?? 😕

Don’t believe everything you read. Who knows what the truth is here.

I agree with agreeing with Taz. We are not all millionaires who can afford to keep everything but even so if he buys it to sell, so what we live in a capitalist society and apart from the left wing nutters communism ended a while ago.

@Robbyman, I have news for you: if you don't think there are "nutters" on both sides of the isle, then you're drinking someone's kool-aid...

I’ve already got a deposit down on one. I was more interested from the point of view of how the system works, if there is even a system.

So it’s just down to the store manager ringing his pals/best customers and offering it to them? Nothing more than that?

I have to say yes, that's exactly how it works. It's about relationships. I popped in to an AD to have a chat with the manager, who I've known for a while after shopping there for a few years. Told him I was after a Rolex GMT (Batman). He said he didn't have any but came out a few minutes later with a black ceramic Daytona and asked if I would like that instead. Obviously bit his hand off for it. Wasn't even on the list for one!

That kind of makes me mad. I understand that that you create relationships with ADs to get some pieces that you like but then why would an AD create lists if they are not going to follow it. I think that is BS. I personally have been on a “list “ for a ceramic Daytona for 3 years. I’m not a flipper, I want the watch for me and wear it so when I hear that someone that is not on the list gets one upsets me. I would be more upset if I was on the list for one on that AD and get jumped by someone that didn’t show interest on the watch before. Just to be clear, I’m upset about the system not the buyer.

It is highly unusual in todays climate though, especially on a Daytona for any AD from an unknown buyer with no history to just walk in and even MORE so when they ask for a hot SS model to walk out back and pull out a Daytona lol. Very very unusual.

I think the answer to this is quite simple. AD's are crapping themselves that they will sell to a flipper and then get on the wrong side of Rolex, possibly putting their authorized status at risk. Rolex are apparently not happy at the profiteering going on and are bugging AD's to sell only to customers they know are not going to sell the watches to grey market dealers. The AD in this particular case trusts his long standing customers not to do this. When I sold the watch to my brother it was under the explicit condition that he would not flip it to a dealer, therefor protecting my relationship with the dealer by not getting them into trouble. Not saying you would do this but a large proportion of SS Rolex buyers are buying solely for this purpose

You really believe there is a list???

Unless you buy other models there’s no chance.

Consider me naive if you want but at the beginning I did. I wear it every time I go to the AD to show that I’m not getting the watch to flip it.
