If you’re a fan of independent watchmaking, sparkling Azure-blue dials (or “Void” black or white!), or simply affordable modern watches that pay incredible attention to all the right details, then check out Orion Watches. Based in Philadelphia area, Orion is the brainchild of Nick Harris, a terrific young watchmaker who is passionate about making great watches and not taking shortcuts to get there. His new Calamity divers are a sight to behold. Perfectly sized at 39.5mm wide and barely 10mm thick, it has a gently curved case-back for maximum comfort on the wrist. It also sports a double-domed sapphire crystal, an exhibition display back showing off the Swiss SW300 movement, a big crown for wonderfully easy setting/winding, a 12 hour steel (or 24 hour black ceramic) bezel, crystal blue Superluminova, and a terrific bracelet that rivals the ones offered by brands 10 times as expensive. Oh, and with 666ft of water resistance, it’s about the only piece in my mainly vintage collection that I can easily wear to the beach, the pool or even the shower! Check these beauties out. I’m not affiliated with Orion in any way...but I’ve quickly become a raving fan! Oh, and sold my Baltic Aquascaphe to get this one onto my wrist! (Sorry, @Larry S ...) (First two pictures are mine, and a few shots from the Orion website courtesy of Ty Alexander).
Yes, Nick Harris, in the Philly burbs. Super nice and talented young guy, and his Orion microbrand is really doing great things. Happy to support him! Check out his website when you get time. www.orionwatch.com
