I have a watch in my collection that came from my late father in law. It had belonged to (and I'm not kidding) his father's third wife's first husband! (Are you with me?) When the third wife's first husband died, the wife told the funeral home he was to be buried with the watch in his pocket! After the service, the mortician removed the watch from the body. After the burial, the mortician returned the watch to the wife! She was LIVID! It should have been BURIED with him! It originally had the family initial set with diamonds, on the case back. My father in law took the initial off, had it made into a pendant and gave the watch to me. I had a new diamond set initial made and fitted. Elgin "opera" watch, 14-karat white gold case, 6/0 size, 15-jewel Elgin movement. I'm kinda glad it didn't get buried!
Might as well turn this thread into a Hall of Shame of sorts. Ms. Alexandria Nicholas (mug shot below) was extradited from Michigan to Florida yesterday to face a charge of grand larceny for allegedly stealing Rolex watches from two men after she and another woman drugged the men. image credit: Broward County Jail Ms. Nicholas and her accomplice are seen in the security camera images below, running with the loot from the home of one of the victims. image credit: Local 10 News Read all about it here: http://www.local10.com/news/woman-arrested-after-rolex-watches-stolen-from-2-men-in-hollywood
In other news, Rolex was named as Most Reputable Company for 2016 http://www.forbes.com/sites/karsten...s-most-reputable-companies-2016/#497d43204f95
I wonder if those girls are the same ones that robbed the Knicks forward a few months ago. http://nypost.com/2015/12/21/party-girls-stole-rolexes-apple-watch-from-knicks-player/
Exactly what I was thinking. I seem to recall the value of the jewelry and watches was somewhere around $500,000. A drop in the bucket for sports starts.
Finally, the heavily armed robbers who did a dramatic smash & grab at a Los Angeles Rolex botique last year have been nabbed. Hooray FBI ! See the news item linked below: http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Feds-Bust-Smash-and-Grab-Rolex-Robbers-383362731.html
