Bought this Mark II to get the box, but the watch is actually not that bad – or is it?

Nice lume colour on your MkII, @WatchWarlock 😀

I picked up one earlier this year; the previous owner had replaced the dial & hands with service racing dial/hands, which makes the watch look distinctive and fresh, I think. The case was a bit scratched so I had it refinished at STS in the UK - now it almost looks like a box-fresh watch 😀

Thanks @ewand got me thinking about getting another one with the racing dial now...

I don't get the obsession with boxes... for me it is the watch that is the important bit.

I'm actually obsessed with rebuilding the full set when I get a watch that has bits missing. While I try hard to keep to what is legitimate for that watch, I do sometime mix it up with a different box I like if it's from the same era. Warranty card or booklet and COSC certificate (if applicable) is almost impossible to replace, so my real preference is to buy a watch with the full set included - helps with authentication too.

Just got my Mark II a few weeks ago too! Looks pretty similar to yours! I think yours is has been polished, but it is nowhere near some of the pieces floating around on eBay. Not sure what the distinction between refurbishing and polishing.

Maybe it's just the image, but the little upper face on yours seems to have the same finish as the rest. Is this how thay came from the factory? On mine the face is shiny (polished).......

Just checked and it is indeed brushed like the rest of the sunburst case. I don't think mine has been polished, but not 100% certain since I've never compared it next to an all original one before. I know Omega and skilled service centers can replicate the original sunburst finishing when they polish it. Don't think it is that big a deal if yours is a bit shiny. It is a vintage watch and the original owner never thought, "Hrm, maybe I shouldn't remove these scratches and dents because 30 years from now the watch would be more desirable as-is." Don't fret and enjoy your awesome piece!
