Bought this Mark II to get the box, but the watch is actually not that bad – or is it?

It’s a cal. 861 with movement# 296069xx, which makes it an early one, right?

My observations: Nice dial – lowest sub dial is a tad brown, though. Not much polish and OK edges etc. Overall it seems the use have been limited.

No knowledge into these, so please tell me what you think?

Price for the package was $2400 - good or bad deal?

    Thanks.

PS: Not many pop up when searching OF - no love for the Mark II out there? :)

Nah, I like it more and more, so unless the experts here says it's a crappy example, I'll probably keep it :)

i'd consider the price of service into any watch that I buy, a complete refurb on my mark II was roughly 8-900$ (pushers, movement service, omega crystal, gaskets, the whole 9 yards), so i'd service yours and wear it! you have a great watch there.

Mine's beat up but my father bought it new and then wore it for 35 years everywhere. He recently passed it along to me as my first omega, now i've caught the bug and i'd like to get a 145-022 sometime.

Looks like a nice example to me... what's the box worth on its own? I think the price is reasonable.

What makes you think that the watch is polished?

It was the shiny parts of the case and caseback I had in mind, not the rest :)

MKII looks totally refurbished. glas has been changed and case polished/brushed. 29M is not early, I have one 28'0XX'XXX
I saw crater box sold for $1000, but usually like 300-500

26557xxx is the earliest 861 caliber 145.022-68 that I have. Just above the last of the 321, the 145.012-68.

I don't get the obsession with boxes... for me it is the watch that is the important bit.

I like it. Them, in fact

I am a fan of the boxes. Haven't found one yet myself but having looked I'd say you definitely got a good deal.
Does the box have the insert?
I've certainly seen more crater boxes sold with MKII's but think many are trying to buy them to match with moonwatches.

Would be nice if you did grow to love the MKII and kept these two together.
But letting the box out for a quick photoshoot with other watches shouldn't be out of the question ;)

No idea personally on the "refurbished" issue. Your second picture does make the corner facet polishing above the pushers look a little wonky but that could easily just be the picture.
If it is refurbished then someone spent a lot of money on it.
It certainly looks much better than all of the mirror finish re-polished cases out there on eBay. :(

    Enjoy them. :D

The important question here is does your caseback opener fit? :D

Love the box, and the watch is great.

BTW I work in packaging. Anyone else?

Yes, box is complete. Everything very nice, except for some brown spots inside:

    IMG_3462.JPG

In person there's nothing wonky on the facet - just hard to make a good pic. Another try, though not much better:

    Thanks.

It's a really nice piece. If you figure 500 dollar for the box, I think the watch was reasonably priced. Perhaps a bit expensive but the condition is great, so who cares.

Just got my Mark II a few weeks ago too! Looks pretty similar to yours! I think yours is has been polished, but it is nowhere near some of the pieces floating around on eBay. Not sure what the distinction between refurbishing and polishing.

Nice lume colour on your MkII, @WatchWarlock :)

I picked up one earlier this year; the previous owner had replaced the dial & hands with service racing dial/hands, which makes the watch look distinctive and fresh, I think. The case was a bit scratched so I had it refinished at STS in the UK - now it almost looks like a box-fresh watch :)
