my first post here (thank you for all of your informative knowledge) and my first dip into vintage watches.

any thoughts on the 168.004? any idea what you think it may be worth?

also wanted to ask about servicing (I've read up a bit -- but seems to be the consensus is to not send it to the Omega Service Center, but maybe try Nesbit's?)

thank you all for your guidance -- hope to share more someday.

It is helpful if you can post more photos. Lugs, sides of case, caseback, inside caseback & movement (if available), plus a higher-rez photo of the photo you already posted. How much did you pay for it that you are concerned about the worth/ value?

If it is plated I would guess no more than $1,500 USD, and quite possibly closer to/ slightly under $1,000 USD. If gold, the value will be higher. But not a lot to go on right now.

Nesbit's does a good job and will respect your request not to polish it. But you have to ask.
They are on the more expensive side.

That is in very nice shape! Gold-filled, so typically valued less than the stainless steel and gold models. But definitely in better condition than most examples.

I'm definitely not a Connie expert, but I suspect many of them will be awakening in the next few hours and will be able to give you better feedback.

Welcome again, and nice job posting the requested photos.

Nice to see what looks like to be a original hidden crown. Beautiful pie pan dial. Sharp medaillion. Case has a bit of wear. Wears big on the wrist. Probably worth between EUR 900 and EUR 1200. Enjoy

Pictures of the inside?

I don't know what I'm doing - is it easy or hard to open the back without damaging it?

agreed on all counts and thank you - I know it is big for these connies but after my 41mm aqua terra it feels positively dainty (and actually perfect 36 mm - I don't know how I would feel with something smaller.)

Very nice. I like it.

If you like it enough it was worth it.

If you dont know, just leave it. Otherwise you could damage the caseback. Or bring it to a watchmaker if you really want to open it.

Nice watch, Without knowing more I’d put the value at around $1000-$1100. Regarding opening the caseback, you can look on YouTube for some non-damaging opening tricks such as the rubber ball, but otherwise indeed I would leave it to an expert.

what these guys said
A very nice looking watch - congratulations.

Probably dates towards the end of the .004 run (say post mid-60s) as it has the brickwork observatory.

Did the seller tell you what movt it had?
Likely to be a 561 - you can tell by moving the hands forward to change the date, then winding back through 9 and then forward again through 12. if the date changes it’s likely a 561.

Don't mess about with the caseback; let a professional have a look. If it's a correct 561 (see f it needs a service while there) then its a nice complete watch. I would say it's worth around $1000 or so

I think it is a gold capped stainless steel case and not gold filled

Gold-filled, so typically valued less than the stainless steel and gold models.
Constellations cases were not “gold-filled” at that time. They were made from a sheet of gold, 10 to 50 times as thick as gold plate, that was pressure bonded to steel.

It is a similar process to how US coins are made.

You don’t see “wear through” on those either.

Although I have no knowledge within valuation of Connies, I must say this is quite a good looking example. I might just start looking for one myself!
