Just had a shipment back from Simon Freese, including this. Nowadays, I put these photos on Instagram, but being old I find myself alienated by Instagram's desire to be TicToc and so I am going to return to post here. Inspired by a small photo in the back of the Goldberger Omega book, I had a blue coloured dial made. It was a long time ago, and the dial restorer has since retired. There are things to criticise, but over all its better than any other redials I have seen. The T SWISS T is a let-down. We do have concentric circles in the subdials. I kept it in my box for some years and recently built it up into this: The case is a service case, 145.0012. It is not pristine, and frankly I cant think of a better use for it. Crown is actually a Mercedes crown, but I don't know what reference it is for: The movement actually came to me in a straight lug case, as a service item that Omega had fitted. Its not in great condition, and its a bit out of focus here as I just wanted to get the number. Which is quite hard to read. That fabulous bezel is from Mr FlightQualified and available on Ebay, but you have to find a steel carrier ring.
It actually looks pretty darned good (except as you mention the t-swissmade-t) ... wear in good health.
Thank you for posting here I would much rather follow a discussion here than the simple fleeting internet head pat on ticstagram
I absolutely love these kind of projects. On the one hand, it can be so gratifying either chasing down a pristine example of a reference one likes, or restoring one to its former glory. On the flip side: flexing one’s creative muscle by putting together something that is unique, aesthetically pleasing, and fun to show to others can be equally satisfying. This is just a great-looking piece.
I love that you do this kind of thing. Being Mr. Speedmaster101, it kind of liberates others to have some fun and not be so stuffy. That bezel reinforces the longing for a 60 min bezel from the mothership. Just brainstorming, would you consider different hands? Give it a little pop. You can buy Snoopy3 hands. Maybe a red tipped chrono from a blue 2020 Olympic? Rodium sub register hands?
It is fun! "The T SWISS T is a let-down." I'm not discerning enough to see why this is a let down. The only thing I can detect is distortion introduced by the crystal.
This is very interesting… I’ve got a spare 321 dial that is bad enough that it needs redialing and have often considered getting Trev to design me something interesting and finding someone to implement it, this really does look pretty amazing in that shade of blue
at least it has a correct practical bezel ( as requested by the NASA astronauts in 1968 ) ! de gustibus non est disputandum
Its a bit scary how good the job is done If not the "T SWISS MADE T" anybody could claim it to be the original prototype late on. I think it looks nice though
