Black guilloche dial. Redial or not?

Hey guys,

I've sold a watch with the description original dial. I really thought it was a original dial because - as we know - textured dials are hard to refinish. But the applied logo is a bit wonky so maybe he has a point. Anyway, because he thinks it's a redial he wants to send it back. Of course that is not a problem. But what do you think? Redial or original?

Because the watch is not with me these pictures is all I got.

I asses it as genuine. There are fonts with and without serifs. Also I judge it by the total apperance; the colour/tone of the text match the overall apperance.

Looks original to me. The age of the lume, print quality, tarnish on the gold figures and overall "look" of the dial add up for original.

That logo is only attached by two tiny pegs (rivets), there are any number of reasons other than a refinish job that after 60+ years its become a bit off.

Just take the watch back, you'll have no problem reselling to to someone who will appreciate it.

Yes. You're right. I will take it back. It's better it goes to somebody who can appreciate it. Thnx for the help!

Yeah, the lume and the aging of the indices and hands is the giveaway to me that this thing is original- first pic is was obvious. I get the impression the buyer either got an earful when he was asked “what’s that, honey?”, or they are just getting into the hobby and started reading threads about redials and now is over scrutinizing but not looking at the right things. Regardless, if you post it here- it should fly.

I’m a newbie, so still lurking and trawling threads to try and pick up tips before taking the plunge on a quality vintage watch. Just wanted to say it’s a gorgeous looking watch!

Ah. Thank you! Just what I needed!

BTW. I've told the buyer to send it back. We'll see...

Given the positive replies you’ve had above I’m sure you’ll have no problem moving it on to someone who’ll appreciate it

Soooo.... Time for a update. The buyer kept saying it's a redial and after I've explained him some very knowledgeable people are saying it's original he still was persistent in saying it's a redial. Conclusion: dont waste time and energy. So I asked him to send the watch back. Anyway, today I've received it back but I see a scratch near the crown (see picture). Maybe he tried to open the watch. But I'm not 100% sure if that scratch was already there. At the before pictures I dont see a scratch. What do you think? Did it came back damaged?

I'm pretty sure, he made that scratch based on the other pictures.🤦

Agreed, I would say he made the scratch based on the pics!

Also worth me adding I have followed a good number of your posts on here over the last few months learning as a newbie, and almost bought a Connie from you when I was chasing a Jumbo! So having seen the honest descriptions in examples you have sold & the content of your posts you clearly have an eye for detail so I just can't see you would have missed a scratch like that pre sale!

Looks like a sloppy attempt to open the case back from the buyer! Shame on them!

I think you just should leave it and don´t waste more time and energy. Regarding the scratch I think the buyer is responsible, but to take a "fight" over that will be exhausting. It is honourable by you to take the return and stand by your sales. I do the same when I sell.
Just move on and luckily, in my experience, buyers whos claiming unjustified faults are quite uncommon.

Send him those photos and see if he comes clean about scratching the case. Then hopefully you can come to a mutual agreement about a discounted refund.

Regarding the dial, I think it's original, and the logo is a little wonky. Perhaps it came loose and was repaired at some point.

I don’t think this guy is going to admit to anything. He has already shown he isn’t open to reason or logic. I hate to say it but this may just be a situation where you lick your wounds and move on. I don’t think you would have a problem moving it to a well established member here (even with the scratch) who isn’t going to second guess the watch.
