Black Black Ceramic Seamaster - quick impressions

This ones only a couple hours old on my wrist so I haven't a whole lot to say, other than this is available to the layman now. I think quantity is still limited but it was supposed to be out earlier this July, and now only arrived at the AD in mid Sept.

This being my first Seamaster, I was concerned that the 43.5m size would be prohibitory large on my wrist. Maybe I'm used to similar dimensions wearing a Speedmaster every day, but it doesn't feel large (height or width). The rubber bracelet is comfortable. I need to go down a size as I'm on the last loop right now. small wrist club.

3 initial impressions:

the lume takes quite a bit of light to react. It's a cloudy day, but walking outside did not charge the lume enough to read the watch by lume in a dark room.

the ceramic bezel and body are glossy. When the watch is clean and smudge free I imagine it will still be a little 'flashy'. I think it's a good thing overall, a matte watch might fly too low under the radar. I was expecting less gloss though and that took me aback for a second.

readability of the dial isn't an issue so far (dark rooms, light rooms, outside under clouds). It's NOT a speedmaster with white hands on a black dial, but this isn't designed to be as accurate as that watch either. It doesn't feel like it's going to be a concern.

Overall, super happy with it. I'm looking forward to the durability of a ceramic watch.

Photos were taken indoors under 60w LED 2700k lighting w/auto white balancing. (I'm a little lazy)

I have the same watch on order, it seems they just started trickling in to AD’s last month. The watch looks great and will compliment any collection. I sport an explorer 2 daily and am looking forward to adding this Omega when it arrives….

I’d not say a diver is supposed to be less legible then a Speedmaster lol.

the defining characteristic of a diver after being water resistant is high legibility lol.

they are interesting pieces.

Ive been on the list for this watch and finally my AD called me to stop by and take a look. In all the pics I've seen it looked pretty legible. When I got to the store I could not see any of the omega logos, writing, and I could barely make out the indices and the time. The lighting was good in the store and I tried many angles. Its a beautiful watch though. I was thinking this morning I may know why I had such a had time reading it. I think if you wear reading glasses you will need them to really see the small contrast in the dial etc. I wear 1.25 - 1.5X and I bet if I had them with me I would have had no problem. Unfortunately I don't want to have to wear and carry reading glasses to enjoy a watch so I decided not to pick it up. Congrats its a beautiful watch.

Small follow up after living with this watch for awhile

Dial readability is still limited in low light. I can usually read it by moving the watch around a bit to catch the light and see the hands, but in normal lighting it's just fine.

The watch is bomb proof - no scratches. It basically looks new as it did the day I got it. That aspect is awesome for a daily driver and I'm looking forward to years more with this guy on my wrist.

Heard from my AD that there are no more ceramic watches coming any time soon. Unfortunate casualty of supply chain issues.

I feel like this would be a cool conversation piece, and a watch I’d buy only after I buy every other watch on my wish list.

No way I’d daily wear a watch with essentially zero contrast.

I get that sentiment. I'll say that if you haven't seen it in person, the use ability may surprise you. It did for me.
