Hi Omegoids, I stumbled upon this but I'm a little confused. I know Omega made Cosmics in the late 40's very early 50's with complicated date/ month windows, and i know they started up with the name again in the mid 60's with Cosmic Seamasters and then Seamaster cosmic 2000 late 60's early 70's , perhaps as a nod to the space race. This one hails from the late 50's and has all the usual 50's styling, but i haven't seen one like it marked cosmic before. Seller says 1958 with a 284 movement making it oversized too!! Am I missing something here? Did Omega make basic cosmic later into the 50's with this styling . I'm not interested in buying it, just want to get a handle on the cosmic timelines...
Here's one that has a certain resemblance and also the Y 6042 ref. (and a redone dial IMHO) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mens-1958-O...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network But it "lacks" the Cosmic. And this "Ranchero" with the optimistic price tag also comes without Cosmic but with Y 6042 and cal. 284 http://ar.melinterest.com/articulo/MLA667170924-omega-seamaster-ranchero-ref-y-6042-cal-284/ "Journey through time" mentions Seamaster Cosmic but only for 1966, displaying only 4 models all with Unicoc cases and all totally different from the one you show, sporting cal 611, 562, 565 and 752
ok, I think I've got the picture now. The more I look at the word Seamaster on the dial , the more it takes on a kind of 50's cartoonish font. Can't understand why the redialler would throw in the word Cosmic..they are (debateably) the most undervalued/unloved pieces in the vintage mechanical Seamaster stable...with exception of the cal. 1001
He said in the description it was 38mm without crown..but now I'm not sure and can't find the original listing!
