Looks like I am ending the year with a bang! I missed out on a really nice and correct 1655 on ebay a week ago, and was pretty bummed. Most of the ones offered on the market were either beat to shit, incorrect, or if correct, way too expensive.

I had seen a watch on ebay that had been on there forever. The pics were just awful, but I thought I spied a case bevel as well as brush marks on the tops of the lugs. They were a brick and mortar store, so I gave them a ring, and asked for them to send more pics...they did...and shortly thereafter we worked a deal.

It is a 6,040,xxx serial from 1979, a birthyear, with a MKIV dial and MKIII bezel which is correct for the serial range. The 93150 is later.

Now to pics...

Another stunning pickup. I'm not a rolex guy but I've always thought this is one of the most beautiful dials ever made. And this one is gorgeous. Congrats!

Beautiful example, and a very nice grouping. An Explorer may be my next pick up. Congrats!

The 1655 is my all-time favorite Rolex. Now if prices weren't so crazy, I'd try to find one. So in the meantime, I'll just live vicariously through you. Congrats Matt!

All good things come to those (with a sophisticated eye) who wait. All best, Matt.

I saw one on a random elevator ride today. The reference is really growing on me.
