Many thanks to all
Took an bit of advice from a forum member and without giving the deal away got a reaction from the boy himself
He fancied a Daytona! (Don’t we all)

Polar Explorer is looking good but I’ll have to chip in a bit more but hey he is my boy!

Classic 'give a mouse a cookie' scenario! 😁

I still say give him a Speedmaster. He either wants a legendary chronograph, which the speedy is- or he wants the Daytona and nothing else will do. To which I channel my father in saying to your son “well, better get cracking”.

Hard to decide, because each of the three choices, the Explorer II, the Datejust, or the Explorer I is a timeless classic. All three are versatile and can be put on straps without needing special end links. If I had to choose, I would choose the explorer II. The 16570. The case was 40mm but measures 39 I believe. Holes case, chamfers on the case, and a white dial a nice watch even today. and will probably retain more value. The other two are also nice, but they are 36 mm so If 36 mm is ok then either watch is okay. if choosing the Datejust it becomes a consideration of what dial to choose and of course you need a fluted bezel. My.02.
