Hi all,

In search of a birth year watch and would appreciate any tips on finding one. Was thinking a Rolex day date or something else.

1983. Have others had luck in their search and any tips for a guy starting out?

Thanks,
Dan

Plenty to choose from, search Rolex forums and watchrecon.com, or just contact a trusted seller and tell them what you want. On Rolex Forums, Seller feedback has a dedicated section. If you find one listed on TRF, research him there.

Bobswatches.com is a very reputable Rolex dealer. They can hunt one for you or alert you when they get one in. They are a dealer so you pay a bit more but the watches are serviced with a warranty I believe.

You can find by serial # produced birth year (very approximate though) or just to see warranty paper dated this year

" Every one of our watches sold in-store and online is thoroughly examined by our in-house Rolex buyers and then fully restored and serviced as needed by Bob’s dedicated Rolex service center. We encourage you to discuss the authenticity of any watch you’re interested in purchasing from us."

I'd also like to know if they are all "serviced" or only serviced when they aren't working etc...

Hence the “I believe. “.

They have a good rep and prices to match that rep ie dealer prices. They are local to me. One day I’ll head over and see the store.

I will second @Foo2rama on Bob’s. This won’t be the bargain you might otherwise find on a private sale, but it’s a lot cheaper than the potential mistake you could make if you buy from someone less than knowledgeable or honest about what they’ve got.

They don’t budge much if any of their listed prices, and that can actually end up making the buying experience a little better. You always know where you stand.

Regardless, I would encourage you to learn everything you can about the reference you like beforehand. Read, ask questions here, read, search, ask, repeat. This could also make the experience more fun and give you a little more confidence going into it.

I trust Bob's watches. Great watches and good due diligence with some human error. I got a good vintage from them and came inspected amd certified but was not in good.working order. I sent it back and they expedited a service and where very responsive throughout. Of course no cost to me. This leads me to believe the watch was inspected but not pre-set iced? Which it wouldn't necessarily have to be if it didn't need it? Or maybe it just got damaged on delivery.

Either way, great company and source of watches.
