    Howdy folks

A few months back I bought an SMPcc from Zeitauktion in Germany. Excellent condition and perfect service, so this is not a rant, just a question.

The bezel in mine is polished, the inlays seem not to be engraved but forged (dunno ´bout right words, sorry::book::) Then someone here mentioned on a similar looking bezel magical words like WG or silver... Can´t be that lucky, so :whipped:me and tell me its just polished SS...::shy::...............

That serial number doesn't come up on the Extranet (might be too old) but to me the watch looks like just a 29988000, but the paint may be missing from the bezel numbers:

I don't think the bezel insert is any exotic material if it is original...

Exactly the same look. Why and how could the paint be missing / removed? This watch should be all original and in excellend condition so would be supprised if the bezel was not original. Well, stranger things have happened :D Great daily wearer!

Can you not see the difference between the bezel in my photos and the watch you have? Looks like paint is gone in yours to me...

Why? I have no idea other than someone removed it. But if this is a 29988000 as it appears to be, it's not in original condition. Did you get any paperwork or cards with the watch that might have a model number on it somewhere?

    Cheers, Al

Paint is easy to remove but surprisingly easier to re apply to that bezel, if you don't like it just buy some paint the right colour and pm me on how to do it perfectly.
I also offer courses in gynaecology and bear wrestling.

    Same thing some days? ;)

Anyway, you are right, I repaint bezel numbers all the time. The only real trick in this case will be finding the proper colour without an example to use for colour matching.

    Cheers, Al

Again, if you have papers or a card that says it's a 29988000, then we would know for sure, but I'm 99.9% sure the bezel has had the paint removed from the numbers. You could always as the seller, since they claimed it was all original I guess...

Thanks Al for your time and expertise, I really do appreciate this!

Guess it´s repainting then. On the other hand, now it´s more unique though not "all original", kind of like it this way more than with the original colouring.:D

Funny about the reference, I cannot find your reference at http://www.omegawatches.com/planet-omega/heritage/vintage-watches-database

Am I looking at the wrong place? I´ll mail the seller too.

    Hi

Sorry to keep on bothering you, Al, but I did some digging and found this. This is exactly the same as my watch, so maybe it is original after all. Hold the paint gun ;) I also mailed the seller.

The bezel for the 25988600 is also painted in the numbers...seems this seller loves to remove the paint...

The database works by case numbers, so that's why the reference numbers I'm using are not showing up.

    So back to paint booth:thumbsup:

Wonder why they do that, is it something that happens during clean-up. An ultrasonic cleaner shouldn´t do this?

Anyway, thanks Al for your help on this!

Have to call http://www.kelloseppakoulu.fi/thefinnishschoolofwatchmaking/ They are located about 6 km from my house, home of watchmakers like Voutilainen, Sarpaneva... They serviced my granddads shipwatch and also his old Schatz yearwatch and their rates are reasonable.

No, I have never had paint come off one of these bezels having it an ultrasonic tank. It would take effort to remove it, so I assume it's done intentionally for some reason.

I'm aware of that school and you are fortunate to have watchmakers of that level so close to you. I met Kari V. a few years ago at a dinner of independent watchmakers I attended while in Switzerland, and he is hands down one of the nicest people I have ever met. He is of course a fantastic watchmaker, and I hold him on the same level of regard as Mr. Dufour in terms of his finishing skills.

It still looks interesting without the paint though. Not that useful as far as diving goes but if you don't mind it then I would leave it as is.

Nobel: I´ll probably get it fixed at the same time as serviced. So sometime within 1-2 years. I kind of like it this way too so no horry, no biggie! And my diving days are far gone too.

    Al: Thanks for your comments!!

I'm an Omega collector and this happens when people get the scratches polished out of Bezel as I have a few with bits of paint missing.
Can you tell me the art of repainting the numbers in and what type of paint to use etc, how you remove excess to get a professional finish?
    Kind regards, John.
