This website has been a godsend as far as advice, education, and community. To that end, I'm curious what other sites the experts here recommend, particularly for vintage Connies and/or Seamasters. In addition to the watch/private watch sales here, I'm currently monitor the following:

- Reddit WatchExchange
- eBay
- Etsy
- Chrono24

It's been tough sledding for what I'm looking for but I know the hunt is part of the thrill. TIA for any advice/insight.

I'd be interested in learning about any experience of members here buying through the reddit exchange.

It scares me and I don't scar all that easily. 馃槈

Edit: One can make contact with and buy from fellow collectors through Instagram as well.

In many cases the people one may consider buying from through Instagram are known collectors.

I've bought a couple watches, without issue. Like any site, do your due diligence and research the seller. BTW, I'm referring to Reddit. I don't IG and probably won't.

I've bought and sold a few lower value watches there. The trick is to ignore all of the window shopping comments. People tend to get their knickers in a twist at the market value of certain pieces. But the serious buyers will make themselves known

My strategy with most sites is to start shopping way earlier than I'm prepared to buy. I observe and learn the patterns so that when I'm ready to jump, I can jump with a bit more confidence than if I just showed up and started spraying money at everything.

That said, I would add WatchRecon (including WatchPatrol and myWatchMart) to the list of sites to help you find even more.

Several years ago I found a few good watches on etsy, and I used to search it regularly, but not any more. First it became just overloaded with garbage, and then the scammers completely took over. The search feature is terrible, so it's a lot of work.

It is a source of continual amazement that their search engine can be such trash in this day and age.

You may still find a rare gem if you're willing to pick through everything. Every now and then you can find a great watch in a surprising place. If you can believe it, I once bought a really nice vintage JLC Memovox at therealreal.com for a very good price.

Fishing isn鈥檛 what it used to be with so many boats on the water.
Have bought less watches year after year lately due to amount of people in the game and quality of what鈥檚 around.
Still drop into any vintage / antique place I see in my travels which has seen a few goodies unearthed

That is always the best way...boots on the ground. If practical. I'm in the northeast USA which along with many places is a great area for that. Same for when we lived in the Philippines. I understand that might not work out in other locales. Internet-wise we pull quite a few deals off of craig's list, offerup and facebook marketplace but we only deal with stuff in our area. Unless we know the seller thru a site such as this and other sites we are members of, we only buy in person and there are never any surprises. So for the most part, the watches in our collection reflect whatever is found as a bargain in our locale. However the more active we are out hunting for watch treasure and expanding our territory, the more likely we will find a few things that suit our taste. The fun of this style of buying is by virtue of price, you develop a certain appreciation for diverse styles of watches. Yes who wouldn't like to own and wear a vintage Speedmaster or sub, but that dainty mystery dialed diamond marker 14k white gold Longines dress watch picked up for $45 at a garage sale becomes just as exciting! 馃榿
