Thanks Stuart 馃憤

As part of my programme, I partake of an old Scottish remedy, a wee dram every evening, this week, a 14 YO Clynelish.

HmmmmHmmmmm......luverlyyyyyyyyy

Anyway, on to the facts.

I hope you're making your mates aware of this?

(not in an evangelical way of course, but either by fatherly guidance or just talk in the pub, or church, or racetrack or wherever).

Cheers

Jim

Really sorry to hear this Jim. Why is it that life always finds a way to give you a really good kick in the bollocks, whenever things are going well?

Best wishes and good luck with the treatment. I hope it doesn't make you feel too ill.

Being myself in the "danger years", I am getting tested regularly.
And I appreciate your strong recommendation.

Really sorry to hear this news Jim.

I had myself checked out for the first time this year as I've recently reached that age. I'll make sure to stick with it.

Best of luck to you.

Congrats! I share your feelings! My PSA levels are all over the chart over the last ten years, four weeks ago my doctor requested a retest as it climbed -again- above normal levels, this past Monday I got the "all clear" news as readings dropped back to normal range! Underwent biopsy a few years ago for same reasons, results were negative but the B process was nothing fun.

Holy fuggin thread revival batman!

Well guys, life is full of the unexpected.

After an all clear and removal of my prostate (lost a few grammes of weight there 馃榿 ), things have returned to the old "Shit City"

Apparently the little fuggin prostate cancer cells escaped their host and got into the surrounding countryside.

Anyway, as a result, I get to ride this baby every day for the next few months, woo hoo........at least they play my music for me (classical of course).

I'm in a good place (to use modern parlance) as I have the magnificent Annie by my side , as well as some great doctors and radiologists (and nurses!!!!!!).

So I reckon I'll be fine.

So!!!!!!!

Why post this again?

To get to you slackers who haven't had a prostate check done yet !!!!!!!!

(notice the use of "Uncle Buck" exlamation points).

So if you HAVE had a check, a big congratulations. 馃憤

If you haven't been to your doctor, please do.

(After about 30 years in the military, I rarely say please to anybody, but I'm saying it now).

Also, some of you reading this may be in my position (and I'm with you brother).

So if you can do it, own up or just support the movement, and get the young (and not so young) of our members to get tested, follow up, and follow up (every year).

There are many avenues for support for men diagnosed with prostate cancer, if you can't find one that suits you, let me know.

Now, back to my best medicine, looking for my grail.

Cheers

Jim

Oh missed your crappy update!!! Im sure at the end you will come ahead! Wish you a fast recovery!

Hi JimInOZ,

Thanks for your great posts and sorry to hear your fighting again but wish you all the best for the future and feel sure with your great attitude and the support you appear to have around you that you will be victorious once again. Wishing you all the best for the future.

As I approach my 55th birthday this year I am only to aware of just how important health is above all else especially as I suffer from chronic back pain and after a few major back surgeries which have resulted in me ending up with a fusion of the spine form my L3-S1 disc's, I am on enough opiates to kill an elephant and due to this have blood tests every 6 months to check my liver & kidney function and also include checking my PSA at the same time.

Thanks mate.
My last two reviews have been all clear, I go for another blood test on Monday and a review next week so hopefully it's been licked.

Now, a reminder to those who haven't had the time, or inclination, or other excuse. Get focussed (but not obsessed) on this aspect of your health now.
Catch it in time and it's minor.
Let it go and it can be a real downer.

Just remember, it's not just your country. Family and friends need you too.

Some of you may have noticed I've been a bit cranky lately (what's new you all say).

Well, after a nine month battle with level 7 prostate cancer I had my final post-op consultation with my specialist today.

My blood tests taken last week show a PSA level of UNDETECTABLE ::psy:: ::psy:: ::psy:: ::psy:: ::psy:: ::psy::

In addition, after having a robotic assisted radical prostatectomy, he said I had achieved his "trifecta".

That is:

1 - Cancer gone (prostate too 馃檮)
2 - No Incontinence post surgery 馃憤
3 - No erectile impairment 馃憤馃憤馃憤馃憤馃憤

I'll still need follow-up reviews for a while, but the weight off my mind has been lifted and I'm almost normal again ::psy::

The point of my post?

I know that there are many on this forum in the danger years, and, if you haven't done so already, my wish is that you get your doctor to check your PSA count, and even have your DRE (I won't spell it out).

A moment or two of discomfort is a small price to pay!

And even for our younger men, having regular tests (yearly) gives a history which can give very early indications and allow early intervention and hopefully you won't have to go down the track that I did.

So there you go folks, my Darlin' is bringing home a special bottle of "medicine" to celebrate tonight 馃榿 馃嵑

And now all of you, off to see your doctor.

Cheers

Jim
Congrats buddy, I have family that have also survived it. They have a fee side effects, but happy to be alive! I wish you all the health in the world.

Dear @JimlnOz

I'm so happy for you [emoji28] Thats the Best News i've heard today !

Lets get the facts here. PSA screening undetectable levels so far , i dont forsee any problems on Mon. You've been informed of achieving the Trifecta.
The Reason was Simple. Your Prostate Ca was detected & treated at an early stage Jim

Stage III T3 N1Mo / IV T1NoMo Prognosis.: Based on all your results (SEER/NIC) your Relative 5 year Survival Rate is almost 100%
That's Abso-Bloody-lutely Brilliant Jim !!!

Yeah.. i'l spell out DRE for the good folks here. It means this [emoji115][emoji40] [emoji121]

I was a little girl when you were the RAAF Warrant Officer in my hometown & the Aussies treated me like one of their own. So that's why you'll always hold a dear place in my heart...

Well I'm just back from my Oncology specialist.
He feels that everything is going very well and as my PSA level was 0.00 (undetectable) for the fourth time he's putting me on annual surveillance, so no more needles until my next Urologist appointment in July, I suspect that he'll let me go to annual reviews as well.

So why do I keep bringing this up?

TO MAKE ALL OF THE MALES HERE THINK ABOUT IT!

When I was first diagnosed and operated on I thought that was the end of it. However with the recurrence and the follow-up treatment it extended the situation which isn't anything I'd like to see happen to anyone.

The benefits of early detection far outweigh the consequences of ignoring it.
There are a number of resources on the internet that will give you an understanding of Prostate Cancer, just Google it and make yourself aware of it, even if you think you're too young you'll be forewarned.

To all of the guys who did something about it since my first post 馃憤
To all of those just thinking about it :whipped:

A blood test and a DRE are much nicer than the "too late" options.

If any of you have questions or need some info you can PM me.

Cheers

Jim

Well well well, long time no news.

A comment by @mollydooker prompted me to give you an update.

After three "0.00" reviews since this time last year, I just had my most recent test and review which has come in at 0.02.
This reading was explained to me as a possible difference in labs or lab technicians and is still in the almost undetectable region.
So now, while I'm happy and healthy, it's time for my annual message.

For those who haven't had the time, or inclination, or other excuse. Get focussed (but not obsessed) on this aspect of your health now.
Catch it in time and it's minor.
