Congrats that hat is great news.
Some of you may have noticed I've been a bit cranky lately (what's new you all say).

Well, after a nine month battle with level 7 prostate cancer I had my final post-op consultation with my specialist today.

My blood tests taken last week show a PSA level of UNDETECTABLE ::psy:: ::psy::::psy::::psy::::psy::::psy::

In addition, after having a robotic assisted radical prostatectomy, he said I had achieved his "trifecta".

That is:

1 - Cancer gone (prostate too 馃檮)
2 - No Incontinence post surgery 馃憤
3 - No erectile impairment 馃憤馃憤馃憤馃憤馃憤

I'll still need follow-up reviews for a while, but the weight off my mind has been lifted and I'm almost normal again ::psy::

The point of my post?

I know that there are many on this forum in the danger years, and, if you haven't done so already, my wish is that you get your doctor to check your PSA count, and even have your DRE (I won't spell it out).

A moment or two of discomfort is a small price to pay!

And even for our younger men, having regular tests (yearly) gives a history which can give very early indications and allow early intervention and hopefully you won't have to go down the track that I did.

So there you go folks, my Darlin' is bringing home a special bottle of "medicine" to celebrate tonight 馃榿 馃嵑

And now all of you, off to see your doctor.

Cheers

Jim

Should have posted this earlier.
Last year, the partner of our then PM was encouraging men to get a DSE, but said they should look for a small female Asian GP.....:

Good one mate, one of my freinds sent me that to cheer me up. I laughed my face off 馃榿

But it's good to see people in his position raising awareness, which was the point of my original post.

So gentlemen, who's been tardy and neglected to get on the program?

Congrats! I viewed one of these procedures in person when I was a student and that machine is still one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

There's videos of the procedure on Youtube, if anyone is interested. Just do a search for "Dr. Ahlering da Vinci Robot". I won't link to that one here, but here a good demonstration of the kind of delicacy the robot is capable of.

Coming out of lurker mode to say congrats!

Thanks for your support guys 馃憤

I don't know how old you are, you may not even be thinking about superannuation, let alone the big issues.

However old you are though, you should be aware (but not scared) of the biggest potential threats to your health in older age.

So I'd ask you to check out the sites listed below (Australian based), and if they aren't suitable, check your local programs for these issues.

It was pretty incredible to see the setup in the theatre (me being a techo) but I didn't have much time to check it all out, the anaesthetician was too quick on the job 馃榿

And the other amazing thing was that the surgeon wasn't even in the theatre, he was in a totally separate room, probably just as well, he didn't have to witness my shaved abdomen 馃槻

Yes, your gratefulness should manifest itself in you becoming that annoying, preachy, self righteous guy who hectors, harangues and haunts every young buck who assumes they'll live to 90 with no problems. And, we'll love you for it! 馃榾 馃憤.

God bless !

I'l bear the cross of the "annoying, preachy, self righteous guy who hectors, harangues and haunts every young buck who assumes they'll live to 90 with no problems" if I can get some of you guys off your arse and off to your GP for a simple check.

And who knows, your follow-up DRE may even be performed by a dainty doctor with delicate small hands 馃榾

But if you delay or "procrastinate", this may be your fate......

Holy fuggin thread revival batman!

Well guys, life is full of the unexpected.

After an all clear and removal of my prostate (lost a few grammes of weight there 馃榿 ), things have returned to the old "Shit City"

Apparently the little fuggin prostate cancer cells escaped their host and got into the surrounding countryside.

Anyway, as a result, I get to ride this baby every day for the next few months, woo hoo........at least they play my music for me (classical of course).

I'm in a good place (to use modern parlance) as I have the magnificent Annie by my side , as well as some great doctors and radiologists (and nurses!!!!!!).

So I reckon I'll be fine.

So!!!!!!!

Why post this again?

To get to you slackers who haven't had a prostate check done yet !!!!!!!!

(notice the use of "Uncle Buck" exlamation points).

So if you HAVE had a check, a big congratulations. 馃憤

If you haven't been to your doctor, please do.

(After about 30 years in the military, I rarely say please to anybody, but I'm saying it now).

Also, some of you reading this may be in my position (and I'm with you brother).

So if you can do it, own up or just support the movement, and get the young (and not so young) of our members to get tested, follow up, and follow up (every year).

There are many avenues for support for men diagnosed with prostate cancer, if you can't find one that suits you, let me know.

Now, back to my best medicine, looking for my grail.

Cheers

Jim

Take care buddy.
