Best available battery for Omega Speedsonic f300?

Dear All:

I bought an Omega Speedsonic f300 roughly 15 or so years ago and had it serviced by an excellent watchmaker though he is not an electric watch watchmaker. The trouble is, the battery won't last more than 6 or so months.

I did research but cannot really come up with the best currently available battery for this movement. The few sources usually say this is ok and that is ok, but none of them appear to be ideal replacements for the original recommended battery which is no longer available.

May I ask the good folks here for the best available suggestion please? Thank you in advance.

Also, with the best currently available battery, how long would it last before needing replacement again? Thank you!

You should be getting about a year out of the newer Silver Oxide batteries, due to the discontinuation of the Mercury batteries Omega will only charge for every second battery they replace.

If you are using the correct battery then it would suggest there is a problem with the movement, something is causing it to have high consumption and it may be due for a service.
Let me know your exact model number and I'll let you know the Omega recommended battery, alternatively take it to your nearest Omega WM/Service Centre.

EDIT: Is it a Cal 1255?

I get nearer 2 years from a Renata 344 cell on the 3 hand hummers so I would say that watch is using more juice than some. Perhaps as noted above a service by a specialist is needed. The Speedsonic movements aren't all that different to the normal hummer. The chrono functions are added by a separate DD module and when not running don’t add any extra drag AFAIK. Do you keep your chrono running? That would explain it.

If it has been 15 years since it was serviced then it is certainly due.
BTW, these tuning fork watches require special tools and special skills to properly service. I had my f300 serviced by Rob Berkavicius and recommend him.

Looks like a good example, if you are UK based I would recommend Paul at Electric watches or if you want the full treatment then Swiss Time Services, I use Paul for virtually all of my F300 needs, he is excellent and very efficient

As above, a 344 is correct. For some reason someone recommended me a SR43 (386) which is quite fat - it fits but god knows it could have ruined my watch from the pressure on the retainer plate.

I've just ordered a 344 for my watch.

I've managed to succesfully service my speedsonic myself. There are few and far watchmakers who are keen to touch them.

Dear Gentlemen:

So pleased to get your replies. Very grateful!

@Deafboy: is Rob Berkavicius is Australia? I am located in the USA.

Ideally, I'd like to find someone in the US. i found somewhere that he is actually located in Bangkok, while his website is hosted in Australia.

may i ask how i would find the exactly model of my watch? it's not on the case back.

from another site, i believe my watch has an ESA 9210 Tuning Fork Chronograph Movement. However, Omega assigned their own model number to this movement, and they call it the Omega 1255.

http://electric-watches.co.uk/makers/omega/omega-f300-tuning-fork/omega-f300-speedsonic/

My case for my Speedsonic f300 is the 188.0002, and i have the Blue non-Raised Baton hour markers.

+1 for Rob. He serviced my speedsonic and will soon service another one. Rob has done a ton of my watches. Also +1 for Chris Radek. Chris just recently worked on a watch for me and is a nice guy.
