Love the Bianchi, classic frame and colour (down to the pump and toe straps). I’m glad it’s being kept in the collection as it’s a true museum or time capsule item 👍. Having said that, I’d be tempted to ride it down to the cafe and rest it next to the carbon and aluminium frames to gauge the reactions from the locals…😁
Bikes were meant to be ridden and that one needs to be seen. I say ditch the dry rotted tires and take that spectacular bike out on some country roads. Guess it’s the equivalent of a safe or trailer queen though. I get it. I had a Bianchi years ago, it died a frame death, used it hard. Love Celeste Blue.

So... Your advice to Mad dog was:
"I know you love that watch but do find an expendable chrono to ride with. I remember posting a riding pic and got :whipped: for the watch I had on. It was good advice. I had road rash about a week later."

End of qoute.

Let me see... If I understand you right... You advice against using a massproduced watch (with lots of spare parts readily found) for bicycling and for using a vintage Reparto Corse (competition build shop) handbuilt bike in a unique and pristine condition?

You are certainly not consistent... please advice further ;-)

@Madog is riding an old performance bike hard with a valuable and irreplaceable vintage time piece, he’s not being gentle. I’m not proposing that you do the same with that Bianchi. I’m just saying that it seems a shame not to take a gentle ride on it. I’m not saying ride it in traffic, flog it for a century or in the rain.

As far as I can see @Mad Dog is using his modern Speedmaster in that picture. Not his vintage.

But - I guess I have to stop using my Daytona for riding then.

I think I had my GMT on in the pic I posted. I now ride with a Timex or a Baltic on my wrist because I really did crash my mountain bike the following week. You do you.

You are correct…it’s my modern 3861. My 1861 is at the Omega spa receiving its first servicing since being purchased new in 2015. I normally use my 1861 for cycling ops…but since it’ll be away for a while, I used that as one of the excuses to get the 3861 and use it for cycling ops.

I’ve never used my vintage 321 for cycling ops…BUT…I will be using my vintage 321 for flying ops at work for the first time this Tuesday. I’m flying with a fellow Delta Air Lines pilot who wears a 1977 Rolex GMT Master only at work. His GMT was inherited from his grandfather who wore it when piloting at Eastern Air Lines. Anyway, I’ve been inspired by my Delta co-worker to wear my vintage 321 [with a Rothco protective band] for the first time at the office…it’ll be the first time it’s been flown on my wrist. 👍

Oops … didn’t look close enough, your amazing EW is burned into my brain. . I forgot you have several. I just feel better with a cheap expendable on my wrist for cycling these days. My 321 is a very travelled watch. It’s also been a victim of an accidental dunking in a top load washing machine, generating a vary large emergency service bill. Mindfulness when wearing old birds is key. Yes another argument for not riding that amazing Bianchi, I know.

Some may be aware but due to surgery I am no longer able to cycle, well to be honest I am but after a meeting with my surgeon when he mentioned exercise and I mentioned enjoying cycling it transpired I should have been informed never to cycle again 🙁

Indulging myself with a couple of old snaps 👍

So sorry. That would make me very sad.

The double whammy ride has begun!
Nice! Is the black one a gravel bike or pure road?

It’s a gravel bike with 40 mm tires.

Knocked out 20 miles today, did a metric the day before. Little trail maintenance and MTB tomorrow to end the week.
