··Ωf Jury memberUp for sale is a very nice example of a ref. 2446 OMEGA bumper automatic. I believe to be original, with the likely exception of the crystal, and it is in very good overall condition, with no major flaws to speak of.
The stainless steel snap-back case measures 34.5mm, but in my view appears larger (i.e. 35.5-36mm) on the wrist. This is largely due to the expansive dial, and relatively narrow bezel. I believe it to be unpolished. It is in very good condition. but could use a ultrasonic cleaning. Note the distinctive lugs. On the middle section of the back there is evidence of a NATO style strap having been worn, but it strikes me as being trivial, and could easily and discretely be polished out if desired.
The two-tone dial is an uncommon variation, and one of my favorites that OMEGA produced during the '40s and '50s. It is in very good condition, with a few minor flaws that are only obvious on close inspection. The slim, elegant applied indices at 3, 6, 9, and 12 are beautifully complimented by the remaining "mirror" Arabic indices. Depending on the light and viewing angle, the two-tone element can be seen clearly, or not at all, and the lighter and darker sections also interchange. These type of fine details catch the eye in a pleasing manner, and were employed skillfully. Note also that the "Fab Suisse" designation is especially sought after by some collectors.
The cal. 351 bumper movement dates to 1948/49. It is in very good condition, but I have no idea when it was last serviced, and would recommend one. I make no claims of accuracy, as I have never worn the watch on a daily basis, nor have I timed it.
The watch will come on a rather nice, and lightly used crocodile strap (only for EU buyers – see below). There is also a very nice, period correct OMEGA buckle included!
The watch is located with me in Portugal. I ask €950 including EMS shipping within the EU. Shipping to be discussed with buyers outside of the EU. I prefer a bank transfer, but Paypal is possible. Given the quality of this reference, coupled with the uncommon and very attractive dial variation, I would suggest that it represents good value in the current vintage market.
PLEASE NOTE: Because of Customs issues, I will not ship the strap outside of the E.U., but the buckle will be included.
Feel free to ask questions, but also bear in mind that "first come, first served"!
