@citizenrich wow, you actually use that KS44 as a beater? Damn, that's awesome! I've got a KS4500 but I baby the crap out of it 馃槜

@Matty01 you've got some terrifc old pieces as beaters! I feel like the first 3 might deserve a well deserved retirement from beater status, though the remaining 3 I would continue to beat to the ground. That Hema in particular, the bezel markings have basically disappeared completely!

The original owner certainly didn't baby her so I figured I'd keep going...lol

I've another one which would probably be graded 95/100 and that one mostly stays inside. These Seikos are exceptionally robust and accurate - I really like 'em.

Re the SKX
I do think, however, that I would end up liking it and taking good care of it rather than treating it as a true, worry-free beater.
This is the conundrum that defeats all discussions of beaters on watch forums: if it's a nice watch we want to look after it, and if it isn't we don't want to wear it.

Have you thought of the Smiths/Precista offered by Eddie Platts over at Timefactors?

I also feel guilty wearin' this one everyday for fear of nickin' the blue faded bezel. Well, not that guilty 馃槈

@citizenrich seems fair enough, haha. I've got a fairly pristine 4500 with chronometer certified dial and a nice medallion, so I baby that one properly. But it's an absolute delight to wear; you're definitely right about them being both robust and accurate, despite being close to 50 years old now.

@timjohn you're quite right about that, which is kind of why I don't mind getting a watch that I don't particularly like just to beat on. I actually have an Invicta 9024OB that I bought as a base for a mod project. I've modded it to look something like a bastardised combo of a SM300 dial/hands and Sub case. I'm actually considering getting that to my watchmaker, certifying its water-tightness and using that as a beater. I certainly have no love lost for that piece.

@Pvt-Public that's a lotta beaters! 馃憤

My view is if you can't wear them, what good are they. And also I am not in a position to afford any nice/expensive enough to be a special occasion only watch. 馃檨 Even most of my pocket watches are "Railroad Grade" or in other words the tool watches of their day. 馃榾

Got to post a picture of this

@Pvt-Public fair enough, but at the same time I think there are some situations that call for a nicer watch to be taken off, or to at least go in the pocket. To err on the side of safety, if nothing else.

Also, looks to me like you could sell a few pieces and fund a special occasion watch without missing a beat!

@STANDY I deeply fear the impending shame, but here goes...

I own 3 beaters, these get 90% of my wrist time do to me working a trade. My biggest motivation for me to land an engineering job is so I can get out of the filth and wear my non beaters (we need to coin a word for non beaters?).

My beaters are this Victorinox Divemaster 500 and this Timex military Homage. Both are expendable although the Victorinox would be a regrettable loss.

So after a few near shaves, I finally settled on a beater for real. It started off with me very seriously considering the Victorinox Divemaster 500. Then next I moved on to a G-Shock Mudmaster. And now, I've finally settled on the Seiko SRP775 Golden Turtle. Just got it on Massdrop, looking forward to getting it in a couple of weeks.

My first classic Seiko diver!
