It's physical vapor deposition, and it's used to put a thin coat of (supposedly) protective hard material over a base metal. http://www.watchtalkforums.info/forums/general-discussion-forum/13745.htm The better the coating material and the thicker the layer, the longer it lasts without wearing off. good info. I stand corrected. The end state is the same, if the process is of poor quality then we'll have pesky results. ๐
