I love the premise of this watch, going by the video it looks like they're using a black ceramic bezel, a black ceramic dial, with yellow gold hands and dial furniture. The displayback is also black, around its bezel so it looks like the whole watch has been blacked out with either PVD or ceramic, then the text "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON" is engraved on the caseback bezel. Strap looks like a nylon or kevlar style in black with red stitching which plays off the red "Speedmaster" lettering on the dial. Almost a throwback to the Seamaster "Darth Vader" of the 70s, can't wait to see the official pics on this one!
Is PVD an option Omega would consider for their watches? I dont have any experience with this finish but seems to me this material in the long run turns into a pesky-looking coating...
PVD is a process, not a material. It's physical vapor deposition, and it's used to put a thin coat of (supposedly) protective hard material over a base metal. http://www.watchtalkforums.info/forums/general-discussion-forum/13745.htm The better the coating material and the thicker the layer, the longer it lasts without wearing off.
Well after Rolex launching black PVD/DLC in their range, it is only time before Omega plunge into the race. The 9300 Speedmaster is positioned to compete Daytonas.
Rolex doesn't use PVD/DLC in general, the platinum and gold inlays in Submariner and GMT bezels are PVD but their bezels themselves are ceramic. Omega did try their hand at this in the past though:
How about these rolexes then? http://www.timeandgems.com/black-rolex-dlc-special-edition-watches.html
They're not original Rolexes, Time and Gems make up their own diamond bezels, do their own DLC jobs, paint their own dials, its all aftermarket work, Rolex has nothing to do with it.
I see...... so it's a mods. I am sure many people buy it.... otherwise Time and Gems will not provide a full range of these. btw there are many fake rolexes in this black DLC/PVD fashion, too.
So hard to tell, but does the movement look gray-ish, instead of shiny? That would be kind of cool... Wonder how much something like this is going to retail for?
looks shiny --- I would think Liquid Metal.... But no [ZrO2] on the dial.... Still curious to see if there will be any surprises at Basel...they seem to be showing all the Cards already...
...Wait a minute!!! there IS a [ZrO2] on the dial.... Just above the axel of the hands... Liquid Metal it is..... About time Speedy got the LM treatment --- may be my first Speedy....
