Bad watches from Brazil on ebay ...

I’ve reported several fake Omega models to eBay as of late, and each time the response has been “we looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made by a customer service agent”.

Either their customer service agents don’t know up from down, or the AI/algorithm that eBay uses to weed out fakes is set to suck. I can’t be bothered to report counterfeit items to them any longer.

As ever with eBay, buyer beware.

yeah, it's a losing battle with these scumbags much like on Facebook -- scammers proliferate while sarcasm gets flagged as inappropriate.

I stopped bothering with searches outside North America. This does limit England and Australia and Switzerland. There is plenty of domestic stuff without having to wade through the spam from India and Spain, not to mention Finland which is a front for Russia. South America is like throwing darts in the dark. One really has to watch shipping fees as these are not refunded, so high ones are suspect.

I reported a few things, with little or no effect. I have not bothered much with feedback either. Has no meaning whatsoever. One can look at how often a seller sells an item.

I have a set of parts lot sellers whom I follow. Mostly looking for job lots. It often seems feast or famine for part job lots. Clutch wheels and winding pinions seem to be short at the moment. Sometimes it is third wheels, other times escape wheels. Takes a lot of patience. I keep getting 570 stuff as I mix the ref with 750 and 560 is what I need the most. Screws are also often in short supply.

Empty cases are a real PITA. These of course are the first part scrapped. It is maddening that replica cases sell for the same as genuine ones or are for cheap movements and do not fit the old movements. Missed the boat on the WatchCo thing.

Dials on the other hand are somewhat easy to make. Or so I have been speculating for the last 30 years. For many decades, there were legitimate dial repaint refinishers. So it is understandable that the markets would be flooded with such. With modern tech like laser engravers and other plotting devices I think we will see more and more of this. My guess is that there are those who want to get the maximum value for the least effort.

It's a pity that you can't remove individual highly suspect countries from your search criteria, but that's never gonna happen, fleabay gets too much revenue from the scam artists to allow you to be so selective in your search procedure.

Two of those looks horrendous but one of them appears original to me.

The 5 o'clock marker on the "Seachero being sold as a ranchero" looks off and I never saw a double-wide like that at 12 -- usually just 2 of the same doubled up -- but I can't say I've seen them all at this point.
