I have a SM 300 Professional, quartz (2264.50.00). I'm wondering how this watch would compare with its automatic stablemate as to ruggedness. That is, which version would be most likely to survive any reasonable damage, e.g. g-forces, magnetic fields, temperature, etc. Your thoughts appreciated. Thanx.
I've owned both versions for quite a while and haven't noticed any difference in resistance to normal knocks or temp changes. Magnetism is a different story. The quartz seems impervious to it, but the mechanical (cal. 1120) does need degaussing occasionally. Five minutes with a cheap Chinese demagnetizer fixes that. Frankly, I haven't had serious issues with either watch.
I own a Citizen Promaster Diver EcoDrive, solar powered and is my tennis/mountain bike/running/gym watch and it's tough as hulk. For everything else I have these 2 babes
The big reveal for me when I started mechanical was the "glass jaw" these watches had from a drop or a bump on a door frame. Rolex is a bit tougher but Quartz can take a pounding.
I bought an Aqua Terra quartz purely to wear playing golf. Wouldn't dream of subjecting any of my 3 mechanicals to that. Of course, getting one with a silicon balance spring would remove that worry....
