Hello,
I am looking for a gold vintage Omega Seamaster as a wedding gift for myself (budget up to 1500$).
It’s rather difficult to find a gold Seamaster in good condition in my area, so I have to choose between “suboptimal” listings.
I’ve stuble upon this listing - 1954 Seamaster Automatic ref. 2848 cal. 491 for ~1500$.

I can’t seem to find this model in the vintage omega database and a google search results in only one similar watch on Chrono24.

The other models I’ve seen had “Omega Automatic Seamaster” written on the dial instead of the “Omega Seamaster Automatic”. Apart from that I can’t seem to find major flaws.

Do you think it’s an original watch or a redial? Is it a bad deal for this watch in this condition?

This is far from a $1500 watch.

The gold cap is worn through on the 1 o'clock lug and a huge chunk of it is missing on the side of the case at 4 o'clock.

Omega Seamaster Automatic exists for this reference (2848). Here's one example: https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-automatic-seamaster-ref-2848-further-reduced-now-550€.151973/
Thanks for the reply. I’ve seen this watch but the dial markers are different on this model. Can’t seem to find one that would be an exact match. What would be a reasonable price for this watch in your opinion?

I’m looking for a watch in Poland and there doesn’t seem to be many vintage omegas around.

It is an attractive dial and reasonable looking hands. The case is very 'soft' though, so I don't think I'd go more than ~$500 for it. You can find WAY better for the $6-700 range (you might have to import, which is cheaper/easier than you'd expect) though.

There will be variations in the dial furniture among this reference. This is to be expected.

Here's an example which does have a similar dial layout, but the case is 14k gold: https://omegaforums.net/threads/cal-491-seamaster.70639/

I would recommend taking a look at recent sales on eBay to get an idea of pricing. I would say $500 max sounds right for this one.

Import from where?
I’ve been looking through listings for about 4 months now and have never seen a decent gold seamaster for 500-700$.

Check out ebay, they show up all the time, particularly from Europe/Japan, but also on the forums here. Gold plated Seamasters are pretty common/ubiquitous if you're willing to have it shipped.

Also, keep an eye on this thread: https://omegaforums.net/threads/rec...-watches-only-on-ebay-not-for-inquiries.1790/

As far as the classifieds here:
This one is beautiful and only a bit above your budget, but worth it in part because it is full gold instead of plate/filled: https://omegaforums.net/threads/14k...tation-watch-30mm-cal-265-waffle-dial.184839/
