Hi All I am looking at a Viceroy at the moment. It has a dark date disc (so date printing is white on a dark background). I am confused as all the Viceroys I've seen so far have it the other way around, black print on pale (white/gray) background. any perspective from the people in the know is welcome Thanks! Paul
It's probably a date disc from a Hamilton Chrono-Matic model - all of the early automatic Heuer Autavias used white date discs. Run away from it, fast
As far as I remember, I've never seen a black date Viceroy. I'm no specialist, but I've seen quite a few.
Thank you Gentlemen. I also got a "red flag" from Abel Court, who kindly engaged into the conversation too Never mind... no Autavia for me this time... yet! @gr8sw: just what I like in a watch... reverse panda, a dash of color, c-ish-case, a crisp tachy ring, a dark leather strap with stitching that recalls the aforementionned colors, very very nice... if you're thinking about selling, you've got a customer Thanks all! Paul
Yes, or any of the other Hamilton models using the Chronomatic movement- It seems that of all of the companies producing watches with the Chronomatic movement, only Hamilton used a white-on-black date disc. All of the others - Heuer, Breitling especially - used black-on-white discs. Why this Autavia was frankened with what is likely a far more rare part than the OEM-spec disc is beyond me, maybe the seller just had one lying around.
Polite correction - almost all Heuer automatics had a black on white date disc. regards Paul www.heuerworld.com
All, never thanked you for all the info. Turns out actually that the whole ad was a true scam... actually, good thing that this disc color kinda ticked me off, because I could have very well fallen for the whole thing and not even gotten any watch at all in the end... So thank you all Still searching for a nice, (somewhat) affordable Viceroy Cheers! Paul
