Wondering what the ethical views are on this. An Auction House selling watches that aren't what they seem to be. Is the House sitting on the fence or have they, by their lack of an obvious description and realistic estimate, done enough to warn a buyer? I don't think so. Not sure if Saleroom have a policy on this. Also, with the 'Rolex' is the placement of the hands a bit intentionally obstructive? https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/...n Nicholson's&mastercategorycode=CWJ&bbc=true https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/...0295/lot-eec3bf5f-5d4f-4d72-ab9b-accb010ad5e8
Not the only auction house doing this, mind you at least they admit they are replicas - or should we say fakes ! https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/...0440/lot-44f896e4-849e-45ea-9bbe-acd2009bd374
While not fine, it's not misleading. Although Saleroom's policy... 'Illegal items and items that encourage illegal activity are strictly prohibited.'
Just to re-iterate like what is the commission they get on this crap, $2? Is their reputation worth so little that they’re willing to sacrifice it for a McDonalds cheeseburger?
forget unethical, how is this even legal? On our side of the channel, you only have to contact the brand to see such listings vanish into thin air
I feel like this has become common practice in places like invaluable.com and liveauctioneers as well. Wish they would just curb the amount of fakes that they promote :/
Forgive my ignorance but are these auction houses well established? Cause it makes no sense to me selling that garbage
Afraid they are . Here's quote from their website "Rowley’s is an independent auction house providing a comprehensive auction and valuation service for private and professional clients throughout East Anglia and the East Midlands. Our experienced team of valuers work closely with leading experts and specialist consultants, most of whom have worked for the major London auction rooms or leading provincial auction houses. We specialise in appraising, marketing and auctioning items for national and international sale and preparing valuations for Inheritance Tax (probate), insurance and family division purposes." Does make you worry about their valuer's skills.
