Hi I just bought my third Omega, the AT 8800 and I have to say I’m disappointed at how the quality of the watch is not what the earlier watches were. The screw down crown doesn’t disengage well and the date change function at position 2 doesn’t work... at all. Nothing happens at position 2. I’ve seen a couple of similar threads about this. How common is it?

Is it definitely genuine? Was it purchased new?

The 8800 uses ceramic bearings instead of ball bearings like the 8500. I don't have an 8800 based watch but the 9904 I have also uses ceramic bearings. I hear it on occasion and it doesn't bother me but maybe your hearing is more sensitive? Even ball bearings are louder than other options so if rotor noise in an issue then another model or brand might be more suitable?

I was asking the OP unless you're having an issue with your screw down crown and date function as well?

I know a ton of people love the 8800 movement. I bought my 8800 SMP during the initial US release. I had to many issues with it. Erratic time keeping (losing 20 sec a day) to the crown not engaging. Sent it in 3x for warranty work. Just sold it and picked up another 8900 AT. Hope yours gets sorted out

Not an expert, but pretty sure the 8500 rotor just sits on a jewel. The 9300/9900 is louder than the 8500/8900.

Thanks for spotting that @Meme-Dweller. I did a check on the Internet and you are correct, the 8500 uses a jewel bearing so it would be notably quieter than ceramic ball bearing based winders.

I only know this because I had both at one time. The 9300 is noticeably louder... like some Seikos 4R35/6R15 movements.

My previous daily automatic had the Omega 3603 so the 9904 is still quieter to me :).

I have a PO with 8800 movement, works perfectly, excellent time keeping with no noise at all. Wonder if you have a lemon?

My ceramic Seamaster 300 has the 8800 movement and it's definitely loud (as is my JLC with ceramic bearings), but I've not had any issues with accuracy as far as I can tell.
