Hello OF community! 😀

I’m asking your help about a watch that I would want to buy to improve my small but growing collection. As I don’t have the sufficient knowledge yet to evaluate if a watch is 100 % correct I preferred to ask here before buying to make sure that I will not have serious regrets.

So here is the watch :
  • Omega ref 14714-6-sc cal 285 dating to 1961 (which is correct based on the OVDB)

Personal remarks :

  • Dial : seems original to me, have some small humidity spots but in overall it looks to be in great shape.
  • Hands : Correct for the reference
  • Crown : Original / Not a replacement
  • Case : looks sharp and never polished IMO
  • Movement : looks clean but will need a service

Are all my assessments correct? The price of the watch is 285 euros (already after negotiation) which I think is fair. In your opinion should I pull the trigger on this watch?

Thanks in advance for all your precious help! 👍

Why not? Looks correct to me, price is OKish. If you like it, add the cost of a service. After which you will have a nice, inexpensive, unobtrusive classic. Not a real collectible imho, not particularly valuable, but a well made watch which, if maintained and cared for, may serve you well for years.

Pretty much agree with all of the above. The only thing that I would add is that the caseback and rim show some pitting and corrosion. I can't really tell wihether that extends any further inside the case or to parts of the movement that I can't see, so that's a risk that you have to factor in. You can't really suffer a serious loss at 285 Euros, so if you like it, I'd say go for it. Dial looks original and relatively clean and I've always been a fan of the alpha hands.

Ok guys, sorry for not giving news all that time. I finally bought the watch but was blocked by the covid situation (all watchmakers we’re closed). A few weeks ago I managed to drop it for service. I’ve just received the watch today freshly serviced and with a new strap and just wanted to share some pictures with you.

Thanks a lot for you help!
