There needs to be wholesale changes to the side or at least a plan in place for 4-5 years time.

I don’t think getting rid of Root as captain is the answer though. A) he’s never been a great captain and was appointed more because he was the next obvious choice in terms of the senior/world class batsmen, not on his captaincy. Nothings changed here so if this was sufficient to appoint him, it’d be strange to get rid of him off the back of it. B) who the hell else would you put in there; Stokes, Butler?

Well done to Australia. Shame it’s been like shooting fish in a barrel rather than the euphoria that goes with a hard fought win.

Don’t think it’s a Root or captain thing. It’s a board and selection thing.

Few new bloods would gain experience.

Fly 3 of these guys in for the next 2 tests or even the last test.

Fark they couldn’t do any worse than this last test. Two days and one session…If I had tickets to the 3rd day 🫨

Root and Anderson are the only two safe in my book.

It’s not even a board/selection thing. Fundamentally it’s the way the 4 day County Championship in England has made way for the bloody hundred, T20 Blast, 1 day cup etc.

As a result everyone wants to hit swashbuckling 6’s and balls to learning how to defend your stumps.

In particular the T20/hundred thing is a joke. Just pick one of them. Of course we won’t do that as T20 is global so we must keep it but the ECB don’t like how they don’t get any royalties for inventing it so they’ve now invented the hundred as well.

I’m guessing but it’s likely that the forthcoming fallout, who’s to blame, who’s to be replaced and who’s to come in, is likely to be more exciting and competitive than the current series

Nah mate, this isn’t the England football team. Literally nobody over here thought they’d come anywhere near drawing the series, let alone winning it. Even my 10yo, who rates Joe Root higher than God Himself, knew they’d get diced.

Why appoint Smith as vice captain? When Cummins pulls out in the 2nd test you are left with the rather unedifying sight of Warner & Smith in the slips discussing strategy.

Glad to See Bairstow having some success in an otherwise fairly dire card on day 3 (Stokes & Wood also notable). Will be extremely fortunate to make 275 considering we were 36-4 at one point. Also some success against Lyon. However, I think the writing is on the wall...
