Off brand/plated case might get you there.

A few examples of the style you are looking for would be good too. I sold an Eterna chronograph here some months ago which fit the time period and probably (?) the style as well.

Ahhh! I'm kicking myself for not buying that one... Kicking really hard!

I'll try to post a few examples later today. Off brand is OK as long as it has a decent movement.

OK, here are some examples of what I'm hoping to find.

36-39mm
Arabic numerals or unique indices
Thin hands
Diameter of crystal closer to diameter of case
Gold plated, but chrome OK
Snail dial would be cool

Not all of the boxes need to be checked. It more of a wish list.

Save this link from eBay:

I didn't see a whole lot that met all your criteria. Here are pictures of a couple I saw there that could be promising:

A couple of pointers here:

1. Any problems you have with these watches are going to expensive to fix when compared to the price. So you want one that is in 100% working order.

2. Most of these that are advertised as "stainless steel" are not. The cases are chrome plated with a steel back. Once the plating goes, the case is shot and having it re-chromed will be expensive.

My feeling is to spend no more than $500 on the watch itself and count on a service that will run you another $300 to $500. You'll be in around your budget and you will know that the work was done to your specifications.

Good luck with your search.

Thanks, Gator.

I'm a bit gun shy with eBay at present. The last 2 watches I bought there were sent back. I'm hoping to have better luck here.

Also, the cost of a proper service is already built into my budget.
