I would suggest the 145.012 is not an homage.

What watch was just posted from 1955 that predates the speedy by 2 years?

You can also argue the first Daytonas are just white speedmasters.

I think we are using the term tribute differently.
Also there is some question as to which reference actually went to the Moon.

    What I meant was,

    Not a moonwatch;)

I think of a moonwatch as one bearing the engraving on the back comemorating the event.

Ironically I don't think a watch with an engraved case went to the moon.

That's making an slight mockery of the whole moonwatch label thing.

Don't blame me, It was Omega wot rote it

You're one of my "custom avatar regrets". sneaky2.gif You've said two or three quotable things since I retired that would have been perfect. For instance, this would have easily netted you "The Rodney King of ΩF".

So... Am I right to think that the watches that actually went to the moon with Armstrong and Aldrin would be thought of as 'pre-moon' watches. Would they have had a Hippocampus and curved 'Speedmaster' writing on the case back' or did Omega just leave them plain?

I agree. the birth of a "moonwatch" brand is no doubt started when cal321.105.012 was used when Apollo11
landed on the moon. hence, a line of distinction is drawn between a real moonwatch and the class of
    premoon speedys
