I’m dumping them for having “Mexico” instead of any CST city in the U.S.A.

I am hoping Moscow dumps Putin.

There are still good and courageous people there. But I get why you asked the question. Sad that we even consider it, even if its facetious. Hopefully the Russian people will be able to make Moscow worth visiting again.

No, it isn't Moscow's fault they have a, um, regretable leader.

We’ve had a few regrettable leaders that pulled some pretty awful shit. Not an indication of the people they rerpesent generally. History never favors them well.

I spent a lot of time in Russia, few trips to Kyiv too from 2008 to 2015. Most Russians simply wanted stability, prosperity but they didn’t want this. I met a lot of very nice folks. I’m concerned for former colleagues in both countries.
* One memorable A Hole exception, very pointy shoes and Gucci carry on bags, on a business class flight from Moscow to Kyiv who informed me on landing that “ Americans are not welcome here”.

That’s all you had to say
The temptation was to comment on his manhood. What I said was "Well the folks who paid for my tickets ARE waiting to welcome me."

I expect that the Russians may do a bit more than just dump Putin. If I were him, I’d be sleeping with one eye open. He has made many enemies beyond just the Ukrainians and lots of them are within Russia.

I’ve also worked across Russia, and I’ve also met some very nice folks there.

But, I try to constantly remind myself that that I am a white, straight, man that always had something of significant value to offer them. I can’t vouch for how “nice” a people they might be to someone less “acceptable,” culturally, much less without something to offer. I have a solid suspicion it wouldn’t be so hospitable.

Broadly speaking, Russians have always been an inordinately hard people, and Putin has over the last 20 years managed to inject them culturally with all manners of dangerous ingredients. Most especially, those with all the power.

I’m a sceptic so take it for what it is, but I would expect no material revolt against Putin’s regime anytime soon, least of all a successful one, absent significant losses on all sides.

You may be right, but we’ll see. The Russian economy is in shambles and getting worse. Putin has managed to alienate Russia from most of the world with the exception of China and a few rogue authoritarian states. The attempted coup against Gorbachev was largely the result of him being too open to Western values and that seems pretty minor compared to where Russia is now. I wouldn’t count on Putin’s inner circle protecting him from the masses. There will be a tipping point. The question is how much more it will take. I don’t have a GMT, though, so I’ve got no dog in the hunt. 😉

Quite a few folks have horrific family histories that few westerners can imagine. This is indeed a people used to brutality over many centuries.
