The title already says it all, I love vintage watches and therefore I bought my girlfriend some vintage Omega's as well. This is the first one I bought for my fiance, with original box, clasp en even original strap:
No way. I like to keep the leader of the opposition completely in the dark about all things watch-related. The more she knows, the more likely she is to notice the comings and goings in my collection.
Not vintage related, but since I offered my girlfriend the snoopy speedy she just looooves it and wears it all the time. She is now eager to learn about the speedmaster history, etc. and is much more comprehensive with my vintage speedmaster monomania. Anyway, she Is still in the dark about my collection as they all look the same...
Haha ofcourse I did not really force her to wear it, but she loves it and I think it's clear to her that she can't wear mine
I stopped buying jewelry for my wife. I started buying jewelry with my wife ... better results. Regarding watches ... she trashes or looses them. Right now she has an Ebel I bought from my watchmaker after she rejected a tag I presented her with. She also likes a space view franken that I refuse to keep repairing. Regarding "force" that would never be a good idea. Also she doesn't get this watch thing at all.
I did the same twice (beautiful vintage omegas) and my wife was pi***d off by the size of under 30mm... It's very difficult to make gifts to persons with a strong own taste... Next vintages will be for myself [emoji41]
My wife currently desires a vintage (!) gold (!) Omega (!) preferably under 30mm (!). I feel fortunate to have married someone who takes an interest in my weird passions. I'm sure I can oblige her soon...the one you bought your fiance is right up her alley. The ones I find on Markplaats often look way worse. Could the crystal have been replaced though? I more often see these with a faceted edge.
Girlfriend's Seamaster (My own wrist, mind you!) : It's a ref. 2826-13 with a cal. 470 movement. Lovely watch in great condition, gold cap + brown strap is a favourite when wearing casual clothes and gold jewelry. Can be used by myself in an emergency Both mine (34mm), shared use Seamasters on coffee date : I'd def. go for a 50's Seamaster again if getting her another watch.
My wife's is the 1944 Omega on the left. I gave it to her as a gift. She likes to wear on occasion. The "cocktail" watch is better suited to her wrist than a vintage man's watch (e.g. Seamaster). Her daily watch is a modern Longines (25 mm width). The wearer of the Longines on the right is a friend.
I bought my other half a 120m which isn't vintage but probably 15 years old, after 6 months she asked me when was she getting the next one (mentioning that I had several). This is a potentially dangerous door to open...
She would not be seen dead with an Omega on her wrist. Rolex or Patek only she says. And diamonds. Spoiled brat.
I had exactly the same watch as your wife has @Deafboy Cal.244 right? I think mine had the original bracelet still on it.
