Hi all, Like many here, my focus is heavily biased towards vintage but I do have a few "modern" watches. I would be curious to see if some hardcore vintage collectors are tempted by "modern" watches and if anybody is considering adding one to their collection. For me, the JLC Deep Sea chrono and the Omega Seamaster 300 are tops in modern iterations of classic designs. Cheers,
Combine the two watches above and you get the JLC Deepsea Vintage Chrono, which ticks the right boxes for me. Otherwise, there was that TAG Carrera last year, the Calibre 18 Telemetre, which looked great but was too expensive by half for a Sellitta movement.
Pretty good re-do if you ask me.. The '57 is also a nice blend of vintage vibe with modern tech. I haven't managed to try one yet though..
The Speedmaster '57 is cool, and I love the case/bezel, but I think they laid the faux patina on a bit too hard. Still though, I guess it's a better model than it would have been with an 1861 inside, as it's now its own new model and not just an homage
Disclaimer: I am not a hardcore vintage collector -- I only own watch made before 2010 (a 33mm manual-wind Seamaster made in 1959) I am turned off by most of the deliberate attempts by manufacturers to replicate their vintage pieces and I find faux-patina particularly hard to stomach (I want to get patina the old-fashioned way). I do, however, appreciate classic design. This piece from JLC has risen very, very close to the top of my "next watch" list:
On the less expensive side the tudor black Bay heritage has been widely embraced. Also a aged to not affect their lume but use rose gold markers to achieve the effect
I just added the Tudor Black Bay to the line up, and I am seriously tempted by the Tudor Heritage Ranger.
I second the LLD. Having owned two, the craftsmanship, especially the casework and dial, is awesome for the money. Mine kept amazing time, and wore really well. For the money, you are hard pressed to find a better watch IMO, seeing you can get a great pre-owned one for $1200-1300.
I have one modern watch a SM300 but I like the newer seamaster bullhead and the globe master. I am going to buy the seamaster bullhead both new and vintage this year. Then I am done
I tend to buy both modern and vintage so I don't think this question was really aimed at me, but since a lot of "vintage inspired" watches are being brought up, I've recently considered adding this one: Pic lifted from this review.
These are the only 3 current production watches I own. Exp2, SM300 and Daytona. Got the itch for a Black Bay black though. JLC Polaris would also be cool, have not seen on in person to make the call.
I think anything in Longines Heritage line is a great way to get a new watch with a vintage look. I tend to recommend that line to my friends who want a new, good swiss brand - while at the same time I subconsciously get them to like vintage
I think the spirit of the question excludes heritage watches. Nomos hits home. Their designs are inspired by designs we've seen in the past, but have their own unique personality.
