I have a 2998-61, serial number 18946061 which in my perfect newbie world sounds like the low production number 61 of the sub reference also numbered 61.
Is this significant or am I becoming a little obsessive about this watch.

No 1 trumps all once you get into the millions well...... I know if you get the 88,888,888 ( just all 8s you get my point) omega some Chinese guy will pay you a bit more one day

Serial numbers in the 18 million range produced in 1961. Doesn't mean that the watch was sold then.

Generally, it took a minimum of several months to for the movement to be cased, timed and sent off to a distributor. Then it might sit with the distribution until ordered by a retailer.

    Hope this helps,
