The whole reason for bitcoin fits with the whole love of watches thing... they are both going up as an alternative to holding cash (that is being devalued my central banks to oblivion)... if the cost of funds is next to zero you can afford another watch..

For now I am a gold and silver bug. However, I might get into Bitcoin.

I am happy to transact in BTC

For overseas transactions betwen another grown up ? It is fantastic.

Fast and efficeient, and without bank-drones asking why.

But you do have to be a grown up, and be ready to take responsibility for your actions and decisions.

I have about 5% of my taxable account in crypto. But that's only like <1% my net worth... So definitely just a little FOMO gambling, not a serious investment.

I think it's a pretty binary proposition. Either it goes to the moon (in which case a small position would still have a big impact), or it ends up being worthless. But it looks like some large companies (PayPal) are giving it legitimacy, so it may have momentum for the near future.

I take the Warren Buffet approach. He doesn't invest in anything that he doesn't fully understand.

it might be easier to get around Bitcoin than understanding what some top tier companies are doing. We had Wirecard in Germany just a few months ago

It is not investing -- it is speculating.

I’m a long term holder. Also have eth, ltc and stellar. I don’t think any are prudent investments but I like the possibilities and the concepts

I'm up to a 2% position in it. Not enough to make me rich if it goes to $1mm, but enough to eleviate some FOMO.

I have a friend who puts all their disposable cash into it. They're up like 80% this year. I'm just glad they also max their boring work IRA first.

Any fear of nefarious entities with the use of hacking and virus insertions making your “wallet” disappear?

Interesting reading the posts in this thread.
I've dabbled in cryptocurrencies a few years ago but stayed out of the market since then.
Too bad that I missed the big rise in Bitcoin's value.

The latest thing I'm thinking of buying is a small amount of Monero (XMR).
It is a cryptocurrency that is more private (less traceable) than some of the others.
There are pros and cons to this.

You can learn more about XMR here:

Not really. Wallets cannot be hacked, the person holding the wallet is the weakest point in the chain. Your coins are safe as long as you don’t fall for phishing and share any sensitive information.
The tech is very save, however there was recently a customer data leak at one of the big wallet providers.
