·Hey folks,
before I go by trial and error, maybe someone here does have the knowledge already and is kind enough to share:
I’d like to transplant the innards (movement, dial, etc) of a 2577 Seamaster I have into another case of the same ref. Both are cal 354s.
One case is of the earlier variant without the beveled lugs, one the later with them. For comparison:
I spotted a difference in the shape of the movement holder plate, too. One is shaped like an S, one seems to be straight(er), not sure if that’s correct though:
(apologies for the bad lighting but I hope the difference is clear)
Question is: Were the cases interchangeable regardless of the shape of the lugs? I know there was a point in the serials of 2852s when they switched from one set of movement holder plates to another, so while I haven’t heard of it for the 2577s I couldn’t rule it out.
The dial of one of them is very precious to me, which is why I wanted to check here first before I fiddle around and damage it. At the same time I didn’t want to hand my watchmaker some work of which I’m not sure it can be done.
Any input is appreciated. 😀 I’ll post the result as soon as the job is done, of course. If I’m really unlucky that might be a bit, though, as one of the screws on the movement plate looks butchered. We’ll see.
Thanks a lot!
