This a very rare and sought after blue Benthos 500 and in great condition.
This is an early 1970s (c. 1973) example; highly sought after by collectors.
Rated to 500 meters water resistance, which was exceptional for its era.
The Benthos 500 was among the first Swiss dive watches to achieve this rating with a serviceable screw-back case.
Working minute-counter: Many Benthos 500 models incorporated Aquastar's signature central elapsed-minutes function for diving, making them mechanically and visually different from typical dive watches of the period.
42 mm stainless-steel case
Blue dial and blue Acrylic rotating bezel
Automatic A.Schild 2162 movement
500m depth rating
The name “Benthos" is from the Greek word for the “Bottom of the sea”. The depth rating for the watch was 500m, acheived by the utilization of a rounded O-ring patented by Aquastar and a 4mm crystal.
