Hello there Omega Forums community! 馃檪 I made this account here to ask for some advice. I recently acquired an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 231.10.39.21.01.001 and I have a concern with the crown positions.

Based on what I'm experiencing and have captured on the videos, I can't go back to position 1 coming from position 2 (jumping hour hand). I'm forced to go to position 3 (seconds hand stops) and only then can I go back to position 1 - it also doesn't seem to stop at position 2 on the way back.

Is this watch broken? My assumption for this reference and the co-axial 8500 (coming from the operating manual) is that I'm supposed to be able go through any of the positions without a problem and it should stop at each one.

Hoping the community can help me out with some Omega expertise or even checking similar watches you may own. Looking forward to hearing back from the community soon, thank you!

I do not believe that isn't normal, you should be able to switch between all 3 positions without problem.

I would suggest sending that back to Omega/Omega service.

IF you screw down the crown while it is in the 'hand setting' position, does it ever 'click' and go back to wind-only position?

Hi Erich! 馃榾 If by "hand setting" position you mean the fully extended position 3, then yes I am able to push the crown back to position 1 (wind only position) from there with a definitive click. What I observe though is that it doesn't stop at position 2 (jumping hour) on the way back.

It seems like I'm limited to the following sequence: unscrew -> position 1 (winding only) -> position 2 (jumping hour) -> position 3 (seconds hand stops) -> position 1 (winding only) -> screw back in

I'm not able to go from position 2 to position 1 or position 3 to position 2.

You can kindly watch the videos I attached in my post, I included audio so I can narrate the concern and allow the community to hear the clicks.

I did in fact watch your video. I also noticed there are 2 clicks from position 3 back to 1. You could stop, but it is very difficult in my experience to do so(on most watches with so many positions).

My question is: can you move from position 2 (hour hand set position) to position 1 by pressing all the way in, then screwing down the crown? Then when you unscrew it, what position is it in?

I see reading above I was imprecise in what I asked, HOUR hand setting position is what I should have written in my first response (from there, screw down and see what position it is when you unscrew after that).

The question is more for a curiosity, as you should be able to go from 2->1 without screwing down, but it might give an idea what the problem is (I suspect the position transition has enough resistance they the spring in the crown is bottoming out before it switches position, and 3>1 works because of inertia).

Know with my Aqua Terra Bumblebee, I can pull it out to position 2 to hack the hour, the move it back to position 1 without resistance.

Hsve used this sequence countless times for setting time dates, and hacking the hours.

1>2
2>1
1>2>3
3>1

Granted mine is the older 8505 movement, but the functionality should be the same. Agreed, should take it back and see if others are having the same issues and if not, they can sort it out under the warranty. It's a pain but they'll take care of it.

Hi Erich! It's currently around 11:30pm where I am, is it safe to still play around with the crown positions and setting the date/time? Or should I wait till tomorrow morning?

If it is not under some sort of warranty, then Omega will likely perform a full service to repair it.

That doesn't sound like normal operation to me. If the crown can't consistently stop at each position when moving back in, I'd be inclined to have it checked by a watchmaker rather than forcing it. It could be something as simple as a setting lever or keyless works issue, but it's probably not worth risking further damage by continuing to use it that way.
Hopefully someone with the same Aqua Terra and the 8500 movement can confirm whether theirs behaves differently, but I'd avoid applying extra force until then.
